perversion in anime

I'm thinking Len has the gist of it. There are many levels here. How is it that some people see Elfen Lied and get all upset about the nudity, when in the same scene you can also see someones heart getting litterally beaten from his chest?
Perversion, is really just defined as a deviation from the norm. Typically, it's used with a sexual connotation. So when we see something that is out of the norm for us, it gets a reaction of one sort or another. I'm *fairly* sure that in schools in Japan, the students don't run around having deadly feuds and battles, blowing up major portions of the schools every day. Possibly it's a massive coverup though. I'm also fairly certain, that the panty shots, and nudity that we see via anime is also just as far fetched. Thus: it's all fantasy. Since most of these shows are geared toward young teenagers, sex and power are the major fantasies that we see played out.
Some shows, seem to have a lighthearted innocent feel to them, and show very little in the way of actual nudity, Love Hina, Maburaho, and countless others in the same genre. These shows quite obviously are geared toward the teenage male psyche (loser nice guy gets a group of super hot chicks that all fall for him over time) The next level up, is the occasional scene with some nudity, usually played for comic value. Shows such as Midori no Hibi comes to mind.
On an other level from that, some shows are quite obviously geared toward fanservice, such as Ikkitousen, or Najica Blitz yet show very little if any actual nudity. The hardcore stuff, or hentai, I don't really know much about. Ask Godix, he seems like that kind of guy.
Then, there are shows that have truly bizzare outfits, like Bakuretsu, and Daphne that the fan service seem so to play almost no role whatsoever in the story, or even the chracters. They just dress in pasties for some unexplained reason.
So in sumary: A little pervish-ness can be fun, too much is just bleh.
@ Paranoia - Chill out. No one is accusing you of whacking off to these shows, although your guilty displays might leave someone inclined to wonder what you have to hide. Don't make a huge all caps rant about generalizing Japanese people as perverts (did you even read the other posts?) and at the same time go off on people from California. Life here isn't like what you see on TV shows dude.

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

and I love you for that! ^.^prettysoldiersailormoon wrote:Guys seem to be more open about it and talk about it like they're talking about schoolwork or something. Girls try to act all offended when a guy says something perverted or says a mean joke. If you meet the right girl, like me, I have one of the dirtest minds in the world. I can take the most innocent thing and turn it dirty.

Yeah, too much can get a little blah sometimes. But if I really like a show I don't mind watching over and over again. And that is sad that someone would generalize America by what they see on tv.madbunny wrote: So in sumary: A little pervish-ness can be fun, too much is just bleh.

As long as none of the fanservice doesn't feel forced or overused (or create a large amount of awkward moments) I usually don't pay it much to any mind.
Anime that relys soley on it I usually won't give the time of day, as there are better things for me to watch.

I found this post incredibly amusing for some reason.paranoia_agent99 wrote:WA HAH!
