when in fact it was when Tsutomu Miyazaki molested, dismembered, cooked, ate, observed rotting and mailed bones back to the parents of several young girls that the term otaku became wide-spread for someone obsessed with something

uh.. er.. well you know what i meant when i said no wonder i grew up to be an otaku. Fine, restate it to no wonder i grew up liking anime :P

Then if you're speaking in a frame of refference (English) why use the term anime generically as Japanese citizens would? :D
