In the Ghibli feature films that have been made so far, there are at least THREE songs (Note that I'm not technically lying; each feature film has LOTS of songs). But these three songs, all with (for the most part) Japanese lyrics, are notable because they were originally sung (and popularized -- or at least made recognizable) in ENGLISH!
Identify TWO of them. What I'm looking for is (not necessarily in this order): 1) the Name of the Song (either the Japanese title or the original English name), 2) the Name of the Ghibli film the song's used in, and 3) the Name of the performer of the original English track who popularized the song (or, at least, made it recognizable).
OK, seeing as how it appears noone else is going to answer this...
1. Country Road(s), originally (I believe) by John Denver. Sung numerous times throughout "Mimi o Sumaseba", commonly known as "Whisper of the Heart". Two Japanese versions are used in the movie- a fairly literal translation of the lyrics, and a joking translation entitled "Concrete Road", sung by the seiyuu for several of the main characters. Generally useless trivia, Olivia Newton John sings the version at the beginning of the movie, which confused the hell out of us when we first got a fansub tape of this movie- we knew it was really new, but thought somehow we'd gotten an English dub of the movie
2. The Rose, sung or at least popularized by Bette Midler. An exceptionally beautiful Japanese rendition of this song appears at the end of "Omoide Poroporo", commonly known as "Only Yesterday", sung by Miyako Harumi if my research is correct.
Truth told, I don't off the top of my head know what the third is- I'd definitely like you to tell us what it is, CliffD.
Let's see if I can't come up with one someone new can answer.
In City Hunter, Umibozu is pretty much fearless and unfazed by anything that gets thrown at him- with one noteable exception (actually, technically there are to, I'm looking for the physical one). What is that exception?
