For the curious, the US licensors for Rurouni Kenshin are:

ADV for Trust & Betrayal.
Media Blasters for the Series.

Uhm, if you wanna stick witH JUST the manga, skip the fourth disc entirely. All 5 episodes aren't in the manga. Hell Discs 5 and 6 only have a few episodes from the manga. I would even go so far to say skip disc 5 since Raijuta (which was in the manga :() is lame. Disc 6 has the rematch which is in the manga and adds to Sano. But other than that, yeah Discs 7 - 14 are a must.

My favorite episode the Valentine one, where Kaoru thinks that Kenshin proposed to her with that ring. That's one of the funniest, if not THE funniest episode of the series. I think that one was right after the Kyoto arc, or soon after.
Don't get me wrong there, were a *few* episodes that were hilarious or not AS bad. Namely the Ring one you mention, the one where Aoshi comes back (the tea) and the one with Sano and the dog.

However, as has been pretty established on the boards (haha :-D), I am a purist and I don't acknowledge it as Kenshin. I follow the way the Manga went and thus, after Kyoto, I watched the OVAs and read the manga. I find that it made Kenshin A LOT more enjoyable then when I watched the remainder of the TV series and it's pathetic ending and handful of episodes that were funny. The storylines (like the Christian Arc), were alright, they just added nothing to the characters or even touched the AWESOME story in the manga.

I guess a better word is that they're mediocre and when the Manga is awesome it's hard to watch them let alone accept them.
DOH!!!

o well i already ordered all 14, the episodes that wernt in the manga cant be to bad :P

Oh how wrong you are. I feel sorry for your eyes and brain. Seriously...disc 4 is GOD-AWFUL. There's an episode about a sumo-wrestler (doesn't even have much to do with Kenshin & co.), one about a circus (gay again) and so on. Oh and on Disc 6...given it has the Sano rematch (which IS in the manga...so worth buying), but it also has the "Pirate arc' which is AWFUL especially when you know that "Kyoto" is coming up.

You know why they put FIVE episodes on those two discs...because they wanted to get to the "kyoto arc' faster. I shit you not.

Basically, watch 1 - 12, 23 and 24 (whatever the Sano rematch) and 28 - 62. Or rather...watch the entire thing 1 - 62 making note of the episodes I don't mention and make note of the HUGE difference in quality of story and charcters. You'll notice that if you exclude the ones mentioned, the story seems quite a bit more cohesive, each episode builds the characters/story up and so on. You add those in the middle and the quality seems like a sin function (up-down-up, etc.).

One thing I will note is that episodes 18 - 20 (whatever is "Raijuta") was in the manga it's just....I skip it since I wanna get to Kyoto faster. I could tell you why it's in the manga, but you'll see for yourself.
