Well, if the persons who made or watched it never had the wish to begin with.

Besides, to an extent all of our emotions are molded by outside actions.

ummm nine, if you really look at the series youd see that it shows that as the show progresses Hedeki encourages Chii to become her on person, and she also becomes more independant on her own, and she becomes slowly more able to make her own decisions, which I PERSONALY think is represented by those books she reads. So really she is making her own decisions and not being molded to think wut shes told, cuz if that were true, she wouldnt hav stopped that internet porn guy frum touching her, cuz she would just do wutever she was told, but she is a Chobit, thus she is like a person, and learns and makes her OWN decisions.

and thats MY two cents, (just an oppinion

So let me get this straight--we have an anime based around a world where female figures are incredibly sexy robot women who are made to do guys' biddings. The main male protagonist is your basic young male loserboy formula and the main female character is a blank-slate sexy female robot who looks disturbingly young and acts as the male's slave from the beginning of the series. The plot is basically the female supposedly gains self-knowledge (that is, power), but even with her newfound power chooses to remain the guy's emotional slave.

This isn't wish-fulfillment?

If Chii becomes so real at the end, don't you think she would have sought out other relationships? I mean, she's got some kind of emotional dependence problems if she chooses Hideki and only Hideki because he was her "savior". Any woman with any sort of reason and mind would have 1) benn slightly embarassed at her intial behavior around Hideki and therefore uncomfortable with him, and 2) recognized that Hideki is definitely not the end-all of males and it was worth dating a little before choosing a life-partner.

Face it--Chobits is just a slightly more developed version of the Love Hina-Tenchi-perfect girl falls in love with loser guy for no apparent reason-anime that is so prevalent. Whether under his power as a mindless sex creature or because he wields the title of "savior" over her, Chii is a slave.

The anime is incredibly fan service orientated. However, the manga puts a rather interesting perspective on the concept of what love is and our technological revolution.

couple things:
1) Hideki, the main male character, is not the usual "loser 19 year-old boy with glasses". He's from the country and moved to the city where he has little experience with a lot of people, girls, and computers. He does end up making a number of friends, who often comment on how much of a good guy he is.
2) Hideki found Chii, he didn't make her. Her memory was blank so in order for her to function, he needed to teach her things like how to talk and what's right and wrong and how to behave.

As the series went on, and as Chii became more "human," Hideki began to wonder how human she could really be. He feared for her safety and wondered if she could feel pain. He never manipulated her into his robotic work-slave or sex-slave and he never took advantage of her. He discouraged her from doing anything sexual like wearing overly skimpy clothes or working at a peep-show. Chii fell in love with Hideki because he was kind to her and looked out for her. It wasn't like Hideki acted kind to manipulate her into loving him. She fell in love on her own.

One more thing, there are male persocoms in that world too. They weren't fosuced one as much as the female models but they existed. And both men and women owned persocoms, not just men.

Apparently you think maybe Chii should burn her bra and became a man hating lesbian dyke who develops a beer gut, shaves her head and joins her sisters in the war against male opression.

By your definition why hould Chii want to stay with a guy who befriended her, has been nice to her, hasnt tried to have sex with her, helped here get a job, told her to keep the money she earned to spend on herself, and as others have noticed and you apparently chose to overlook, encouraged her to become her own person and develop her own personality.

You cant enjoy this show because you cant get past your own petty insecurities.
