I was thinking about the series DragonBall Z today
congradulations, want a cookie?
noticed a very odd pattern when it came to Goku. He's normally called the hero in this anime, but he doesn't exactly have the "hero résumé" so to say. Why you ask?
No one asked why, frankly I don't think anyone really cares.
To the best that I can think, Goku's never beaten killed his opppent, nor beaten them.
So you can't think well, its not your fault?
Here let me learn you...Heros save the day. Goku always saves the day, everyone sucks major ass except Goku. Without him the DBZ world would have ended real fast.

He beat raditz, without him piccolo would've gotten raped.
He beat Vegeta, why did he leave? UHHH cause of goku.
He raped the ginyu force...
Freeza got his ass handed to him....what are you? dense?
Goku doesn't kill ppl because he is good hearted and gives them another chance. Hence he is a hero and you know nothing.
Plus DBZ is about team work, most of the time everyone gets their ass kicked and goku comes in and saves the day...its good to watch the series before talking about it. Thanks.
You are completely useless.

Beautiful JFF. You just flamed AJ.

I believe that already warrants a thorough lashing and an exile to hell for eternity
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

PS, Goku isn't my hero, but...

...geez, let AJ discuss what he feels like discussing. Hell, it's not usual for the forum to have reasonable discussions about characters instead of OMG GOKU ROOLZ OMG!!!!oneeleven

I don't know what's worse, that he flamed essentially the nicest person on the forum, or that ge got all serious when discussing DBZ. :?

your forgetting a few important villians

he did kill King Piccolo but yet he did let Piccolo Junior go
he killed Baby cause he used his Kamehameha and blasted him into the sun just like with Cooler
he also killed Tambourine to avenge Krillin's death
plus he killed Super 17 i believe havent seen it yet but he did kill Sin (dub name) Shenron with a Genki Dama but it was kinda like the same way he did Kid Buu like you said.

on a side note dbz haters should not post in dbz threads errrrrrrrrrr

I don't hate DB. But not even Toriyama himself takes his work as seriously as I've seen some people take DB. :?

To the best that I can think, Goku's never beaten killed his opppent, nor beaten them. And I'm talking about the major bad guys, not all the minor ones. Also, this little theory only exists for the show right now, because I'm pretty sure Goku kills Dr. Willow and Cooler... (that I know of so far)

I'm sure I can be proven wrong somewhere in the anime, so help me out here!

He was killed against Raditz.
Vegeta was the one who killed Nappa.
Vegeta got away.
None of the Ginyu Force were really killed by Goku, they were kinda unconscious (proven because Vegeta later punishes the barely living Ginyu Force when they are liying on the fround lifeless).
Captain Ginyu never really got killed.
Freeza lived through the first time.
Later Freeza was killed by Trunks.
Same with King Cold.
Goku suffered from the heart disease against the Androids.
Goku quit against Cell.
He didn't really try against Buu the first time.
But wait! Did he actually beat Buu himself in the very end?!?! I think he did... but then again, he did revive him as Uub...

I believe your "hero resume" is a little off. While i dont care to much for DBZ, Goku is the "hero" of the story.

To identify a protaganist or "hero" you must apply him to the the 3 terms in which he has to match adleast 2.

1.Main character
2.Starts action
3.Reader/viewer symphasizes with

Now even though the story is not told from Gokus point of view but rather from a third person omnicient one, he is still the main character.

Also, Goku starts the action by protecting earth instead of destroying it.

And the third which is not needed is also matched to Goku because you symphazise with the fact that his father died trying to save the planet in which he lived ( just as an example ).

Soooo, you can say hes not the hero all you want just because he didnt kill someone, however, in realality he is.

-Hope that made sense :P

Goku, as most heroes do, fights for good, that he does.....
Only heroes fight for good..... therefore, Goku's a hero.
I have no fondness for the name of Battousai. But I will not pass it on to a man like you.
