And I never really watched Dark Angel, but unless it takes place in a postapocalyptic world populated by cyborgs and outlaws, then I don't think it's very similar to Battle Angel Alita at all.
It's about a super fighter girl. Not cyborg, but transgenic. And there's this blond guy with glasses that helps her, and it's a post-apocalyptic future.

Not the same thing, but similar enough for me to guess that.

I never watched Dark Angel either, but the two main characters made the series look too much like B.A.A. I'm only guessing, but Cameron probably liked Alita so much, he took elements from it to make Dark Angel. Having the series still fresh in his head, he probably took the idea a step further and planned the movie. This and Eva are the ones I'm really looking forward to. I have high hopes for the finished products, but I'm really praying that they don't suck mainstream.

Same here DTJB. Battle Angel Alita is one of the best stories I've read in a long time, and Cameron had better NOT screw it up.

And thanks for filling me in a bit on the plot of Dark Angel, El Banana. You're right, they do seem similar on a conceptual level. I wouldn't be too surprised if Cameron took the lead from that show and cast her a Alita. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though.

Gaikotsu wrote:Also in development are a live action Battle Angel Alita movie, which they damn well better not screw up. I've heard that they're working on one for Lupin III and Kite too. And of course there have been rumors for years of a live action Akira movie in the works, but there's nothing to back that up.

However, the Battle Angel Alita movie has been confirmed (not currently in development, but James Cameron said he would be directing it, and possibly a series of them). Not too sure about Lupin III or Kite, but they sound do-able. Akira LA is not likely.

It would be interesting to see a Trigun LA movie if they didn't screw it up. . . but they probably would.
EVerything you mentioned IS backed up by the Replay magazine... I believe it was like.... March's addition... I posted the exact article when I got the mag about it, suprizingly not a lot of people replied..> Considering I'm the only person that posted FACTS....

I'll be damned, so they are going through with the Akira movie. It's been just a rumor for so long that I figured it wouldn't ever get made, sorta like the Aliens vs. Predator movie. And I can't believe I forgot about the LA Ninja Scroll. Thanks for the info, SQ.

(Sigh) And that's the only movie I own a script for. I was SO looking forward to seeing it made, especially when they made changes after the first draft. I heard it was going to have a female lead who would join up with the predators to fight the aliens, I even saw production art proving this. Doesn't this franchise still exist? Well, at least we've got these anime movies to wait for.

The franchise still existed the last time I checked. A couple AvP games were made in the last few years, and I think Dark Horse still owns the rights to the comic book. For some reason, the movie just never happened though. Hmm, this thread is getting a little off-topic. Sorry.
