I thought that story arc was okay, too. It was the one after that that was dumb IMO, the one about the demons and that monk-guy who shows up to help Kenshin. My favorite episode the Valentine one, where Kaoru thinks that Kenshin proposed to her with that ring. That's one of the funniest, if not THE funniest episode of the series. I think that one was right after the Kyoto arc, or soon after.

The Dub to the first ova's I didn't mind all to much..
Cept when he was a kid, children dubs seem really annoying. Might be dubbers kids that fill the role and dubbers are to concerned with how cute they think they are to realise they sound really bad for the role.

Do they actually cast kids as kids? I thought they used women. Extremely annoying women. (well, their voice acting is annoying, anyway, they're probably nice people)

Uhm, if you wanna stick witH JUST the manga, skip the fourth disc entirely. All 5 episodes aren't in the manga. Hell Discs 5 and 6 only have a few episodes from the manga. I would even go so far to say skip disc 5 since Raijuta (which was in the manga :() is lame. Disc 6 has the rematch which is in the manga and adds to Sano. But other than that, yeah Discs 7 - 14 are a must.

Don't get me wrong there, were a *few* episodes that were hilarious or not AS bad. Namely the Ring one you mention, the one where Aoshi comes back (the tea) and the one with Sano and the dog.

However, as has been pretty established on the boards (haha :-D), I am a purist and I don't acknowledge it as Kenshin. I follow the way the Manga went and thus, after Kyoto, I watched the OVAs and read the manga. I find that it made Kenshin A LOT more enjoyable then when I watched the remainder of the TV series and it's pathetic ending and handful of episodes that were funny. The storylines (like the Christian Arc), were alright, they just added nothing to the characters or even touched the AWESOME story in the manga.

I guess a better word is that they're mediocre and when the Manga is awesome it's hard to watch them let alone accept them.

Is the manga still ongoing? Or did it end the way the last OAV did (don't wanna give out spoilers, but it was gut-wrenching, more so than the "Samurai X" OAV).

***inevitable spoilers***

The manga ended (sadly not in time for the superior manga story arc to be animated), but the Seisouhen OVA to which you refer is *not* the orginal ending. It was produced after both manga and TV series had finshed entirely, and is an 'alternate' end, although the majority of it is still the same; from about the point where Kenshin gives Yahiko his sword onwards it diverges. The original manga ending is much more upbeat and positive, and also finishes sooner- at the point where Kenshin and Kaoru are pretty much left to themselves in the Kamiya dojo, with Kenshin's son Kenji, happy.

*****KENSHIN SPOILERS AHEAD*******

As Savia has said, the OVA ending is NOT the real ending. I'd say only 20% of that stuff actually happens. Basically after Kyoto (remmeber he visits a grave?) is the beginning of the Revenge Arc. This is BRIEFLY touched in the OVA. However, in the manga it was about 12 more volumes which is the equivalent to about Kyoto (so yeah the little in the OVA doesn't tell you anything). Basically the first OVA is the first two volumes of the Revenge Arc where Kenshin explains his past to the others (since Enishi is attacking).

After a bunch of stuff (like 10 volumes), Kenshin finally wins (duh) and we skip ahead like 5 years where Kenshin and Kaoru are married, have a child (Kenji...only a baby too). Kenshin gives Yahiko the reverse blade, he runs into the sunset and Kaoru and Kenshin remain at the Dojo happy. The ending is open since well...now Yahiko is sort of the "kenshin" now and also it wasn't as stupid (IMO stupid) as the OVA ending.

So yeah, I basically stated what Savia already did, but lengthier ;). The manga ended like 2 or 3 years ago. It's a damn shame they'll never animate it and give fans the "true" story and ending (they probably wouldn't since storylines would contradict).

*****SPOILERS AGAIN**********

Ah, so Kenji didn't go off to be trained in the mountains, and Yahiko never whupped his ass for calling Kenshin a wuss.

I kinda liked the ending of the OAV, but I have to say it did seem a bit odd. They turned Kenshin into a neglectful husband/father. And there wasn't enough of Sano in it, either. I'll have to pick up the books now, you've got me interested (the last manga I collected was Blade of the Immortal, until I quit collecting comics way back in 97).

****KENSHIN SPOILERS*****************

No Kenshin was never neglectful or uncaring. After Revenge (which is like RIGHT after Kyoto), Kenshin settles down with Kaoru and his child. As I said, it's open ended in that Yahiko has the sword and will PROBABLY become just like Kenshin. That was it...a happy ending.

As for the OVA, I know it can be enjoyable (and it is to a degree...the re-animation of the fights was amazing), but for a pursist like me, it pained me to see them make that 'crap' the ending when I knew it was very much untrue. It pains me further that a TON of fans think that's how Kenshin ended when the real manga ended entirely differently (and happily).

As for the Manga, if you search on the internet (I won't point you there since unsure if I'd get in trouble), you could find manga scans with translations. I'd mail you the manga, but well...I don't know you that well and don't know if you know Japanese that well :). I will say this much though, I found Kyoto more enjoyable then Revenge. Although I enjoyed Revenge 10x more than the OVA. It's still good, dont' get me wrong, I just liked the villains and backstories more in Kyoto.
