Well, it's probably not frowning upon other people. It is just the fact, when you use stuff you have bought, nobody can (or will) sue you for you have paid for the service. And if somebody wants to sue you, you can always say, heh I bought it, so I can use it whenever and whereever I like!JustAnOrdinaryPanda wrote:Well, I suppose you could argue AMV's themselves are illegal also, esp when they're being distributed like this across the internet, but they like to consider it legal and still frown upon the people who are being slightly more illegal.
Well.... sort of...

Well, for those that have purchased it, they should know even moreso about the copyright laws stated clearly in the beginning of the DVDs/VHS'. I think it's something to the effect of no copying reproducing and displaying to public places, or something like that. The internet isn't public, is it?Aetherfukz wrote: Well, it's probably not frowning upon other people. And I think frowned upon is an understatement, you get some self-righteous people on this site ready to crucify people using downloaded footage...

Well... it's a legal gray-zone... you know, like you are always allowed to make a backup copy from every cd/dvd you own...JustAnOrdinaryPanda wrote:Well, for those that have purchased it, they should know even moreso about the copyright laws stated clearly in the beginning of the DVDs/VHS'. Kinda true. I too used downloaded footage for my first AMV, but I wasn't so harsh to just come here, and ask where to get that footage in my very first posts...And I think frowned upon is an understatement, you get some self-righteous people on this site ready to crucify people using downloaded footage...
IMHO if he wants to make AMVs just for his personal entertainment, and he wants to make it with downloaded footage, who are we to say that he can't do it. But coming here on the board, asking for it sure is the wrong way...

I know you're legally allowed to make back up copies for your own purposes. But the internet is hardly a gray zone, it makes it available to public audiences that didn't pay for it. Just like those who download footage.Aetherfukz wrote:Well... it's a legal gray-zone... you know, like you are always allowed to make a backup copy from every cd/dvd you own...
I have plenty of downloaded footage, and messed around with it a bit, although I only use DVDs (pretty much just for the quality, and to respect Phades rules).Aetherfukz wrote:Kinda true. But yeah, I agree, after it explicitly says in the rules about this, to become a member and not take note of them, even ask for help with it, is a bit of a wrong thing to do. But we should at least give him a bit of leeway.

who cares
who really gives a crap?
when someone posts a link to their video ... NO one stands up and says " ok young man .... did you use footage that you ripped yourself? " NO .. everyone knows that people use d/l footage , and quite honestly people that rip the footage themselves are actually worse than the people that d/l it because they are directly contributing to the stealing of copyrighted material.
so go and enjoy a few videos ... i doubt that there are a group of people out there ripping apart videos and audio so they can resplice them into complete episodes ..... although that would be funny to see.

The hell are you talking about!? That's not what we're arguing! Whether it's practically wrong or morally wrong is of no consequence...
