I believe that a heavily edited Sailor Moon was my very first one. All the S.D., Kanji, and school girl outfits were really different from the cartoons I've watched before (and since I was like 6...). Then I saw edited DBZ and Pokemon, and I noticed a similarity between those 3 shows (aka big eyes, SD, etc). Then I learned it was called anime and that it was really Japanese animation (well, that explained the kanji). It was then followed by Digimon and some other kiddie series. I didn't totally love those shows, I just liked that they were different.
Later, I got CN on cable, and Toonami peaked my interest some more. Sure, they were still edited, but Tenchi, Outlaw Star, and Gundam were definately an improvement.
After I was able to stay up long enough to watch Adult Swim, I became a hard core anime addict! :D

I have to say how I got started into manga.

I was somewhere between 11 and 13 at the time (15 now) and Love Hina had just come out. I'm kinda ecentric and bad with money so I decided to buy it at the wishes of my younger sister. I now have almost 90 manga and still no job...

By the way, I finished Love Hina a while ago and am now collecting all of Ken Akamatsu's other manga.

The first anime that I watched was Iria: Zeriam(sp) Hunter on the Sci-Fi channel.
I also watched the newer Giagantor/Tetsujin 28 on Sci-Fi.
I was big into Ronin Warriors when they ran it, and DBZ at 5/6 AM on Fox.
For a while I just watched Sci-Fi, stuff like Fatal Fury and Robot Hunter Casshan.
Robot Carnival was another fave.
Sailor Moon was kinda nifty...

Now I just go between Giant Robo: The Animation, and trying to buy Jubei-Chan.

On the summer between my sophomore year of high school and my freshman year of college, (about... 2.5 years ago, now), my friend told me I had to watch Lain. Not knowing much about anime at the time other than Akira and a Miyazaki or two I downloaded the fansubs. After marathoning it, I had this inexcusable thirst for more.

The next day I was at Best Buy and saw the NG:E box-set with the 'greatest anime of the 20th century' sticker on the packaging. It was all downhill from there.

Robotech on Toonami was my first. Can't remember when that was but I know I missed the last few episodes because of a family vacation. I was mad so I started watching it the second time it was aired and I missed it again because of another family vacation. When I got back it was replaced with something else and that was the end of anime for me for a while. Jump forward 5 or 6 years and a friend lends me NGE disk 1. I go and buy the whole series and love it. My obsession went downhill from there. One day at Suncoast, I did find all 3 boxsets for Robotech so I bought them and marathoned them with a friend. Fun times.

My story isn't dramatic, but here goes...

-I had a couple friends who liked Anime...

-Went to one of their houses to get away from parents for an afternoon...

-Watched Akira...

-Then NG:E

-Then another...

-Then Endless Waltz

-Then Gundam Wing (I had to know what the movie was about)

-Then got kicked out of Friends house, (it was three days and twenty-seven cokes later)

-Went to Fry's Electronics

-Spent $450 (The money I had been saving for three paychecks)

-Bought Tenchi Universe, Akira, Heavy Metal, and Gundam Wing.

-Went home, took three days off of school and work to watch anime.

-So, i guess i was an instant addict, huh?

When i was like 6 I was at my grandparents house (In NY) and saw and episode on DBZ from the saiyan saga, back when it was on upn35 I think it was. It was the episode where chaozu blew himself up on Nappa's back. Unfortunately I did not notice what it was called, what time I watched it, What channel it was on, or even if it was on where I lived in ME. About 5 years later I was into Pokemon, but I didn'y really know that was anime until somewhat recently, so that doesn'y really count. Anyway, asbout a year after that, 6 years since I originally saw DBZ on UPN35.. My little brother was watching a cartoon on CN; I told him it was what he was watching was stupid and to shut it off, like all good brothers should=P Of course he did not and I started feeling wierd, like I'd seen it before, but I couldn't have or could I? By the time It got to the commercial break I had realized what it was. It was the exact same episode of the show I had seen 6 years before. I was into that for a while and started Karate b/c of it and I am now a 2nd degree brown belt. 2 summers ago I got into Rurouni Kenshin and my school started an anime club last year which got me into more anime. last summer I watched about 140hrs of anime. and the not-quite 2 week wchristmas break I had I watched 40hrs of anime in, so now I am a complete anime Addict. I've seen about, well I have no clue how many series I've seen, but I'm downloading about 25 as they are released, on fansub, currently.
