How are spike and lupin anything alike? Spikes a bounty hunter and lupins a thief. Whos the equivalent of zenigata in Beebop? Anyway this was a really stupid comparison. Lupin is old as dirt and still funny beebop was funny serious.

Joseph Campell, there's a name I wish I heard more of. Star Wars can compared to many earlier works..and could possibly be based off them.
As for Bebop and Lupin, the similarities can be found in several anime. A hip retro lookin fellow with an older masculin character (also the similarities between Spike and Lupin are far too thin, hell I've seen Spike compared to looking like a member of Duron Duron in a review of the Bebop Film), as well as a series of second and third party characters, like the traditional sword weilding fellow (whether evil or good), a buxom, often loosley dressed woman (what anime DOESN'T have that?).
