Well I also got into anime with Dragonball.
When I saw the first episode in TV I loved it ( a wonder because later I realized how bad the synchro was) but after a while I got bored and my friend gave me akira on dvd. (before I watched akira I thought Dragonball was a cartoon  )

Transformers, Voltron....some old old reruns of Speed Racer. Those were the first anime I saw. Of course, I was like 5, so I didn't know any better, just liked 'em. When I got older, I started reading gaming magazones that mentioned 'anime', and started reading websites about 'anime.' (This was the good old HTML 2.0 days). I picked up a copy of "Akira" at a rental shop and that was that. :)
Life's short.

What really got me into anime was Cowboy Bebop. Not the first anime I saw but it's what really got me into anime big time. After that I started watching the anime that was on before and after it like yu yu(this was over 2 years ago so adult swim has changed). Like someperson i hate to say it but DBZ was the first that I saw, but I hated anime at the time. Cowboy Bebop is what really brought me around.

- Totally sweet dubbed Dragonball Z (before the horrible FUNimation stuff past the Namek Saga, back when it had atleast a little style) introduced me to the concept of anime.

- Japanese Dragonball Z (the episode when Son Goku went Super Saiyajin and the 2 episodes before and after that) made anime a deep dedicated hobby of mine

- Neon Genesis Evangelion was the first series I watched in whole, and it essentially set me on track.

Don't disturb me now, I can see the answers
