I thought that was otaku-dom. o.o

I think you're obsessed when you have glass-blown figures modeled to feature your favorite anime, though the specially-created license plates do take you a step over the edge. But hardcore? Obsession sounds more honest. Hardcore just makes obsessed sound cool. ^_^;

I know what doesn't make you hardcore: being a 300 lb guy with a moustache who cosplays Sailor Venus.

Is there any such thing as a "hardcore" anime fan in the first place? I mean when I think of "hardcore" fans of, say, Star Trek and Star Wars all I can come up with is the juror who showed up dressed in a TNG Starfleet uniform, people who get married in Klingon makeup etc.

If you're willing to admit it in public, then it might be the case.

Admitting you are hardcore is just bragging.

Not really, if they don't have proof or a reason why to back it up then it would be bragging. Keeping it quit is just stupid, its like keeping your emotions inside until they burn you into a deprived old man/women.

Can't say I'm "hardcore." I've seen some, I own some, I read some. That's just about it. I like anime but not so far as to cosplay.

Obsessing over something now and then is healthy :D . But centering your whole life around that is...special.

I'm definitely an otaku fanboy... in all the extreme and derogatory senses of the word.

Fanfic, fandub, fansite, cosplay, etc. The works.

At my facility, under the Kenshin tapestry (I'm looking at it now) is a Pansat DVB reciever hooked up to PanAmSat 9. Damn I'd really like to have a PowerVu crack right now. On top of the STB/IRD is the Hori soul controller. Below is our boxes, "Nephtis.animetheory.com" Win2003 Server "Temjin.animetheory.com" WinXP "Jehuty.animetheory.com" Win2003 and "Zaku.animetheory.com" WinXP (this is a Linsux-free zone, but Firefox and iPod is cool) realize the domain has "Anime" in it. On the shelf: discs abound, The RahXephon Bible, the Kenshin artbook, copies of Afternoon of Kodansha, some Kadokawa stuff... yes I've done it. Plus copies of "Media Messages", "Anime Explosion", "WHat's Japanese in (Anime)" and "Teh Japan! Encyclopedia!" sources which I quote a lot...

Referencing anime is also a favourite, including:
(crawling out from under a bed)
"(getting out) is almost as bad as pulling the Aegis Gundam out of Chitosu (CTS), damn vertical seperation mins. At least there isn't some 7kt headwind to... *gets blown back inward* Oh there it is!"

But you KNOW you're an otaku when you... of ALL things...

I'll be showing up at the local Anime Conference in September and handing out discs of the VCAs (no fee nor plug). Also, I've involved several others in the Conference as well... crammng 12 people into a room sounds fuuun!

And then there's the gateway fan... after a season of Taiga Dramas, "Three Generations of Tokugawa" and two Romulus Hillsborough books,
