I agree with Kai. Get the Akira manga, its VERY good.
6 vols. at about $20-$30 each. Oh yeah, about 400 pages per volume, this is a manga that's well over a thousand pages.

Let's see......

Ranma 1/2 ( 161 episodes(7 tv boxsets), 11 oavs, and 2(3) movies (movie 3 is included in the Oav boxset in the American release)

Trigun (26 eps)

Neon Genesis Evangelion (26 eps, 2 movies)

Cowboy Bebop (26 eps, 1 movie)

Excel Saga (26 eps)

Puni Puni Poemy (2 eps)

Hellsing (13eps)

Mahoromatic (2 seasons, 26 eps total)

Outlaw Star (26 eps)

Spirit of Wonder (First Oav is gonna be tough to get as it was an Animeigo release that is now discontinued, but the second batch of Oavs is available from BanDai)

Gundam 0083 (13 eps)

Hand maid May (11eps, cute and fan service rolled into one package)

Hades Project Zeorymer (4eps, but a freakin good oav series from the late 80's. Shouldn't run you more than $35)

Galaxy Angel (just released, but looks promising)

FLCL (6 eps)

Sakigake! Cromartie KouKou (R2 only, so you'll need to import, but this series is funny as HELL, even more so than FLCL)

Now if you get manga:

Akira (as stated before, this is a must get title)

Trigun (Dark Horse should have both vols availabe by now)

Trigun Maximum (Import only, for now that is currnetly 9 vols available)

Hellsing (Darkhorse has the first vol. available, but currently 1-6 is available in Japan)

Ranma 1/2 (Viz should have most of it available by now. Vol. 1-38 in Japan out of print, but I got lucky on Ebay and got all 38 for $150)

Outlaw Star (good manga, but import only)

I'm recommending these titles as I have all of them and am quite satisfied.
Though I've spent way more than $300......

Berserk is a good war anime
Patlabor is good for mechas. I reccomend movie number 1. And also Escaflowne.
Hellsing is a good vampire anime.
Cowboy Bebop is very good overall.
If you like shoujo anime then I recommend Revolutionary GIrl Utena, the tv series and movie.
If you like comedy then Final Fantasy: Unlimited

I also recommend Vampire Princess Miyu, Trigun, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke.

300 bucks to blow on anime?! Damn! ::sulks:: I wish I had 300 bucks to spend on anime.

As mentioned before, go to rightstuf.com. They ought to relieve you of all that troublesome, unnecessary cash.

Eva is probably a good place to start, as the full box set of that is quite affordable these days.

I'd recommend even more gainax stuff, but I don't know how much you're into that. I do find the current FLCL DVD's a bit too expensive, but KareKano, on the other hand, is a very good deal these days...

Even though interest rates are barely nothing, I'd recommend not spending all $300 on anime. Only binge so much.

He might have more...but he's dedicating those 300 for anime specifically.

God, I wish I had that kind of cash flow.

How much are those Kenshin boxed sets going for? I'm saving up to get one myself....

Meh, I'd have no trouble dropping that much. And, were I not so cautious with spending in general due to my limited resources, get me to a con, and that $300 or more would be gone in minutes

Get berserk, and or FLCL.
