the more i think about it, the more i'd like to see a prequel, but think about it.. would you really enjoy a prequel considering what they have to work with
if you DID have a prequel, i agree that it would (hopefully) have a lot of insight into a lot of topics, for example:
Second Impact happening
Yui Ikari looked at more in depth as a scientist and her role with Project E.
Asuka's mother and current family and how exactly mommy went batty
how Gendo got involved with Gehirn
Misato's role in the Katsuragi Team
Kaji's role in general (the manga version of eva goes further into this, but the anime is the true story of eva, so the manga cannot be fully trusted to provide details on him or many other events, but MAN! does it help... trust me, pick up the special editions and dig it)
Pen^2's story looked at, even though we already know about him, it'd be nice to see him going through the stuff and watching Misato take him in
Seele's formation
the actual finding of the Dead Sea Scrolls
what happens directly AFTER Second Impact, how the world has changed
... but the reason i'm doubtful about this possible prequel is that you can't just throw information at us. I think you should have some sort of conflict that is present, the only way i see this prequel giving us all this informatiion, is if they of course show it to us, but then they would have to end the movie/episode 0 with something to do with Second Impact
they would have to show all these relationships and events, but they would still have to stop before they get to the actual series, so they can POSSIBLY end the prequel in a couple of spots:
1- 3rd Angel appears... roll credits
2- Aftermath and Recovery of Second Impact
3- Shinji recieves a postcard, he tells his teacher he lives with (in the manga he lives with his uncle... gendo has a brother?!... it was probably just Nerv personal and shinji was told it was his uncle imo)... he gets onto train towards Tokyo-3... toll credits
of course there are a couple of other ways it could end, any thoughts on an ending to this prequel, or even any thoughts on what conflict could be shown to justify a prequel, not just information thrown at us?

In my humble opinion, that's even worse than thinking that all of EVA is meh. To think that it all is meh is to just not like the show, but to dislike some particular parts!)v(ajin Koji wrote:well, I think SOME of Eva was rather meh.

Uh anyway, I still don't think a prequel would work well enough. The main point I think would be to reveal secrets, and that isn't really something you can base a series on. Evangelion could get away with an awsome enough prequel OVA, I'm sure it would be totally awsome (it would have to explain Rei's origin though), but I don't think it's a great idea. There are other things they could do with Evangelion.... none of which have as much potential plot as this idea but oh well...

Look at all my trials and tribulations

Everything I heard about Asuka's mom was that she was the first to synch with Unit 02 and failed. I remember from ther series (or the manga, can't remember) that the reason behind the kids piloting the eva is because none of the grownups could- they were born pre-impact. Whether or not that has anything to do with the opening or closing of the Chamber of Gauf, is entirely up to you....
