*fires up her bitrate calculator*

You could fit 4 eps (25mins) on each DVD and STILL have room for 20mins (aprox) more video without going below the maximum bitrate! It'd be no stretch to fit the series onto 6 DVDs, 5 if you drop the bitrate by 1mbps. GAWD, it's flabbergasting!
Pioneer managed to fit each 26-episode season of Fushigi Yuugi onto just FOUR DVDs... don't see why this doesn't happen with more series...

Not in their case. Even though there's only 4 DVDs per season of FY, each season's box set costs $200 retail, which is almost twice as much as, say, the 5-disk Kare Kano set.

Yes, but ARE they single or double sided DVDs? Since that is a cheat almost, a double sided DVD is essentually two DVDs stuck together so you natrually half the necessary amount of physical disks to hold all that anime. Of course... double sided DVDs can't have lables except around the core.

Meh, I could care less for bitrate. There are times I wish they fit more episodes in on the official DVD releases. Geez, it's not like I'm gonna make AMV's outta them all, and I don't think my eyes will explode below 3000kbps
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

:? Someone got me a couple sets of those hong kong disks as a gift a while ago. At first it seems cool having all 80 episodes in a nicely packaged set. And the boxes are way nicer than the crappy snap cases most anime comes in. Then you watch them. You get some artifacting from the low bitrate.
The subtitles can be a comedy on their own. If you are lucky, you're lucky but that can change mid series. You get what you pay for, or didn't in these cases.

My personal advice would be to get the official set if you can afford it.
If you actually care about what you are watching, the awful subtitles can ruin it for you. Plus of course the picture quality varies between acceptable and poor, with visible jaggies in many cases.

Unless you buy special collector's editon bootlegs from DJ_Izumi. Now with their own special extras, better than a single art still per disk no, and special cases made from.....um special stuff.

So order now as copies are limited until Izumi runs out to Best Buy and picks up some more DVD-R disks.

lol, that's a pretty mean joke.
Well I have bought HK dvd' only twice and for good reasons.
One, I hear the LH dub sucs, I was low on cash and wanted the series.
Two, gundam wing , what dialog to mess up?!.
However, I heard a recent rumor going around.
that the HK one's support the Trid.
I don't know if there's any valitity to that claim.
Also, I own a ton of leget DVD's which have cost me an arm and leg.
Just choice the path that an indivual thinks is right, then stick with
it. Must sleep now Zzzzzz
