Download a series called get backers, or Tsukihime.

Both undisputidedly good animes, with good plot, characters, and music, all of these apply x2 to Tsukihime.

Kintaro Oei is a 25 year old who had enough credits to grad from law school but dissappered. He rides around Japan on his Mikazuki 5(bike) and does all kinds of odd jobs, mastering each allonjg the way. Everything is from his perspective so we see boobs jigling and other shit that a guy would pick up on.
It's only 6 episodes long although I hear there's also a movie somewhere. He also has an internal monologue that kicks ass"DOMINATE ME MY QUEEN!!"

Also Record of Lodoss War, that ones pretty good too.

Excel saga is damn funny but also a bit on the weird side. I loved the last episode though

nice to see someone from the philly area on the org. well anyway about your question. escaflowne is a good one and so is trigun and ofcourse cowboy bebop. if u want to go for some really violant stuff go with hellsing or beserker. rurouni kenshin is also a good show.
