1. Yes, both digital and VHS.Moonlight Soldier wrote: 1. Do you own fansubs of unlicensed anime?
2. If so do you destroy these when liscensed version come available?
3. Do you download anime that is already liscensed?
and...
4. (Please keep brief).... Do you believe fansubs of unliscensed anime helps to promote its release in areas other that japan?
2. I probably ought to, but it's too much trouble to refactor my CD catalog, and keeping tapes means I can lend stuff out to friends without risking damage to DVDs. Much of what I follow has a slim chance at best of being licensed; I was pleasantly surprised by Steam Detectives and Master Keaton, but Cooking Master Boy and Early Reins see No Chance In Hell of worldwide release.
3. No. I have occasionally duped licensed material off other people's tapes, though.
4. Hell yes. As a case in point, see Fushigi Yuugi a couple years ago....this title just would not have gotten picked up, period, without Tomodachi's distro. There are probably some other examples from the digisub era....on the manga side, it's pretty clear that Toriyama's World's scanslations got Naruto into Jump USA.
