NGE - the way that shinji finally came to know himself and break through the depressed fearing spineless thing that he was into what he is.

EoE - (this is the way i interpreted it) the way that shinji decided that even though h is afraid of people he still wanted them to have a chance to live because it was better to live in a world with people and be afraid than to be alone.

Fruits Basket's ending was cute and happy in a dark way. The last few eps actually made me cry because I felt so bad for a certain character, but then things actually wound up working out...

Oh, and Violinist of Hameln's ending was really sad... it's one of the reasons I'm debating rewatching the series, actually.

Agree with the emotional impact of Fruits Basket and many others, and add from my recent watching the penultimate episode of Narutaru. Words fail me when I try to describe how shocking and emotionally harrowing this episode is.

The ending to Shoujo Kakumei Utena is an AMAZING and moving ending. The REAL ending in episode 39, not the first 13 episodes ending. Wow, it makes me cry every time. ;_;
The Magnificent Seven [Britt has just shot a fleeing bandit off his horse.]
Chico: That was the greatest shot I've ever seen.
Britt: The worst! I was aiming at the horse.

X the series ending

Kenshin OVAs, a little bit.

Macross Plus as well

I think that's it. I really don't care if its happy or not as long as it works. Depressing or sad ending just make me feel like my situation isn't bad at all and I should be happy, so I do. Good or happy endings, make me happy; if I care enough.

Xenogears.

Hey, that's anime, sort of.

But, to make this legit, the end of Rahxephon was perfect, IMO. I would list the last Kenshin OVA, but that was just too depressing.

People have already said mine:

-Grave of the Fireflies - uber depressing
-End of Evangelion/Neon Genesis Evangelion - If you don't understand why the ending is uplifting and moving, you should really rewatch it.

To a degree, Vision of Escaflowne for A) personal reasons and B)

Call me a sap, but I get all sappy when I see Vaughn and Hitomi say goodbye and yet still maintain their love in two different worlds.
