I want to know though, how is it that a company can do this. I was genuinly fooled. The product looks so real! Also, can anyone offer advise to how I can see the episode I am missing?

As sad as it is, between 85% and 95% of all media purchased in Hong Kong is bootleg. It's all run by their drug lords and it helps to support the drug market. In Hong Kong the bootlegs are just sold in stores, its almost imposible to buy legit stuff. As far as buying whole series, if its not on anime nations site or right stuf or suncoast then its not real.
Uhhhh, I'll put it in later : p

AnimeNation, a fairly reliable source on all official anime DVD releases (Mainly because that's where they get a lot of money.. by selling them
), has the following picture posted with their Love Hina box set product:
I know that to be the real picture on the Love Hina box for US release... Because I own it ;D
Note that the image shown in that Ebay auction is nothing like the official box art. It's a bootleg.
Also notice that the person who made that auction has very questionable skills in the English language.
Add up all these plus the fact that it's region free, has English AND Chinese subtitles, and the fact that it's so damn cheap... and there's no other answer but B-O-O-T-L-E-G.
In other words.. if you wanna avoid buying a bootleg (Which all good little otaku should do!) make sure you compare some sort of image or other info from the real release on an official website like AnimeNation to what you're seeing on Ebay before you buy something like that.
Again, things to watch for:
- Complete series on very small amount of discs
- Region-Free DVD
- Subtitled in Chinese and English
- No English dub (Not always applicable. Some shows don't have a dub such as Sailor Moon season 1, Urusei Yatsura, Blood the Last Vampire, etc...)
- If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is!
- Auction owner's English skillz are questionable (Not always applicable.. some peopel are just naturally that stupid)
- Series is not liscensed (Check animeondvd.com for a liscense list)
- Series has not come out in the USA yet (Check an official site such as AnimeNation)
- Box art doesn't match up (Check an official site)
- Shipped from Hong Kong
- Comes in fold-out style "flip" box (Not always true. Some North American releases are in boxes like that. Some examples are the Ranma 1/2 OVAs; Fushigi Yuugi seasons 1, 2, and the "Oni Box"; Tenchi Muyo! OVA box; etc..) (Again... Check an official website and see if they say what kind of box it comes in, or if there's a picture where you can tell by looking. Most USA release box sets come as a sleeve that holds several DVD cases, or one big multi-page DVD case (Bubblegum Crisis 2040 Perfect Collection, Nadesico Collection, Generator Gawl collection, etc...)
TYhere's more ways to tell... but let's just say that if you carefully pay attention to details, it should be appearent.
I hope this was helpful

because in reality noone cares, its cheaper, and it fits more nicely into places, plus you dont have to get up all the time to change dvd's. Some of the official box sets things are huge, i'd rather have 3 dvd's instead of a giant ass annoyingly big sized box of 8. But whatever, apparently alot of people here care if its bootleg or not, but i dont, so whatever. o.O

i find a lot of people here are anti-bootleg, and rightly so
but im curouis as to how many poeple here say, bootlegs suck, and yet have illegal copies of xp pro installed on their computers.
now i am agenst microsoft having such high prices on thier product
but im also agenst stealing it (which i wouldn't do if i had the money)
and im agenst bootlegs
i just find it ironic that people hate bootleg dvd's, and yet everyone laughs at how they steal microsoft software

bootleg (or piracy what was talked about in this thread) and stealing are two different things. in stealing you d/l for free in piracy (buying what somebody else d/led for free) you spend like 10 bucks to fund the international drug cartelle. Save yourself some bling and d/l it is all that's said here
Nobody's condoning anything.
THAN there's the stuff you get in hopes of making amvs. l33t AMV makers suggest you get the actual licensed anime/ songs because the stuff you get off of those dvds/ cds are actually better for your anime music videos.
THAN there are the ultra purist (RIAA) your assuming we all are. Some may be but most aren't thankyou -_- poor misconceived noob.
