My god, you guys can't see that the plants in the series that they use for power are blatent metaphors for the actual vegetation types of plants? Have none of you studied biology? In Trigun humanity feld the Earth because they'd destroyed the environment. On this new desert planets all they have to sustain themselves are these mysterious power sources known as "Plants". They're a blantent referer to the vegetation. The sun is humanities source for energy (not electricity, energy), the only biological organisms capable of giving us that energy are plants through photosynthesis. The energy is converted into glucose and ingested by animals and used. Now, Vash and Knives themeselves are not vegetables, they are these mysterious "plants". However, its definately a metaphor when you look at how much environmental significance the story of what's happened to humanity contains.

Plus remember when you see Vash conversing and interacting with that strange being inside the plant? It look an aweful lot like a humanoid plant creature. *hint hint
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

this is just what I mean. Metaphor and analogy is not going to be the same as proof.

There is little in the way of proof on many things in that series.

Still I like the different opinions here, but it seems no one really knows the answer.

And as for Maxiumum, I don't mind there being a huge difference in the series and manga. Although it may cause arguement about 'true' endings (which one finished first or was created by the author?) it makes things more interesting for viewers. Who wants to watch and read the exact same thing? ^_^

Wether or not there is an organic quality to it all, I think the Plant reference was to like power plants. But didn't power plants get their names from vegetation anyway?

The main point of this is that Vash and Knives are not plants in that they don't have roots and petals and stuff.. Vash needs to eat and drink. I think it's only when in the bulb that they can survive without food and drink.

I think that Vash, Knives, and the rest of the plant angels are more like human beings taken to the next level. yes, they might have used plant material to help mutate them to be what they are, but they are related to humans.
Reality is for people who lack imagination.

Pretty nice theory there. There is indeed a pretty deep root in the whole plant thing. I still love that scene where vash meet knives in the final ep and in the middle of the desert he is sitting in a tree shaded little area. :P

I think the issue won't fully be 'solved' until you all recieve a notorized letter, in triplicate, from the series writer(s) explaining everything behind the story.

And all this supposition... Why whine? It's just a story. I write 'em all the time. My characters often have mysterious origins, odd abilities, or there's unexplained phenomena interwoven into the story. Why? I don't know. My favorite story, there's a lot that isn't described or even gone into at all, but yet is integral to the story. Even I don't know the reason for everything I write; It's just there.

You draw your own conclusions, and you have to be happy with what you get from it, because no two people will ever agree fully and exactly on everything your opinion may have to offer.

Now, if you want something deep to wonder about, ask youself this important question: Why does the American Express card have a roman soldier on it?

Oh, and please stop trying to dissect a story.

I disagree.

They are VERY far from humans. You just dont see it as much in Vash as you do knives because he has chose to live as one.

And i havnt read trigun maximum, but i REALLY want to, yes i have also seen scans from it. Some things that are differnt are indeed that wolfwood dosent die (This was included in the series when the series isnt even done being published, a reason why anime should be made AFTER). Also knives uses a form of actual knives as weapons and can turn his arm and almost his whole body into an "angel blade" and various other instruments. Other then that there snt much i can say.
alright, i think i know what yr saying, but they are the missing link btwn the mass energy making plants and humans. from what is seen in the anime, the plants can't speak, in fact they don't even respond to humans around them. all they do is have energy drained out of them to run cities and spaceships.

vash and knives can talk, walk, even stalk(if yr talking abt knives) the whole theme with steve rejecting(and abusing) the brothers shows that to a certain extent, the brothers(later, just vash) is somewhat obligated to help ppl understand and accept themselves and different sentient beings(the plant species, race, whatever you term them) at the same time, they can communicate with plants.

while this never happened, im pretty sure that if knives didn't floor humanity on the dustbowl of a planet, thats what would have occured when they reached their ultimate destination.

Can there ever be a discussion on this forum without someone coming along telling everyone else to stop?

I like reading everyone's individual opinion. You interpret every movie or tv show you ever watch to get a meaning or some kind. You may even learn or see something you didn't before by asking other people.

If you don't like seeing people filet Trigun to find an answer (that may not even be there, I am aware)...the back button is your express way out of here.
