You left the best little bit out of #5......a shout out to AMVs...sorta.
When Haruko comes flying onto the scene to battle the giant robot (and the robot pulls out an appropirately scaled SHOTGUN), she's riding the guitar like a surfboard and dressed in a bunnygirl outfit. As the camera pans up, she lets shouts out "Daicon V"! It's a massive inside reference to Gainax's earliest work where they made an animated intro sequence for a local convention, Dai-con (like the radish). The Daicon III opening wasn't much to write home about (although amusing), but the Daicon IV opening was this phenominal action sequence where the Daicon (playboy) bunny is soaring around the skies, surfing on a flying sword, and battling off the likes of Darth Vader, the vehicle Voltron, and the creature from "Alien", all to the song "Twilight" from ELO. If you haven't seen this, hunt it down. One of the true proto-AMV works back when the hobby was just starting.
Als Gregor Samsa eines Morgens aus unruhigen Träumen erwachte, fand er sich in seinem Bett zu einem ungeheueren Ungeziefer verwandelt.
