Not entirely...the voices themselves...the emotion conveyed in them. I think that US voice-actin on average is generally overlay acted or sounds WAY too stupid. Japanese voice-acting tends to just..."sound" better and more genuine to me. It makes sense though considering the creator is japanese and he chose them to convey his "voice" and whatnot. With dubs, you get another layer of translation/interpretation.Shun wrote:I think he meens that without being able to learn japanease the subs are what are really ment to be said, and there for portray the character better. Adleast thats what i think hehe
So..yeah I meant the actual voices.

As for the DVDs, they ARE bootlegs and wont' have any dubbing period (since they're from HK). Hell, you'll be lucky if you get a good subtitled translation at all.
Oh and...have you NOT heard the subtitled version or do you just watch anime dubbed period (i.e you've mainly seen Cartoon Network stuff)? Because...IMO (keyword here) the sub is FAR superior in voice acting and in conveying the characters. I think the dub is attrocious (even among dubs).
And like Zarxrax says, go to DeepDiscountDVD, they are usually the cheapest.
that bootleg set .. DOES have both dubs and subs for all the episodes .. My brother bought it i should know .. But the problem is (besides noticably downgraded quality) with those bootlegs .. the dvds get frequent errors .... and by frequesnt .. i mean ALOT of errors as you get on in the series ... The Audio often is lagging or increased the distance from the video ... alot of subtitle freezes (this is on 2 seperate dvd players .. and 3 seperate computer dvd readers) .... all in all .. this isnt worth it to lay down the cash even if you morally dont side in the bootlegs vs. legit wars.
(not that im condoning bootlegging, but sometimes ....... shit happens)
P.S. we here at Animemusicvideos.org do not condone the pirating, bootlegging of any licensed products including anime and music. and all links and posts corresponding to which are subject to change without notice.
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.

I aggree the kenshin dubs have to be some of the worse... it just doesn't make sense that these characters set in the Meji era have american accents. I've watched the entire series and ova's subbed and then I watched this movie that was VHS (rented) so only the dub was available and it totally bites. They just didn't seem the same characters that I knew and loved.dwchang wrote:Not entirely...the voices themselves...the emotion conveyed in them. Reading all this talk about the Kenshin dub is making me nauseated all over again. I say "again" because I watched the Full Metal Panic preview DVD from Newtype USA today (my Japanese subscription ran out
) and the dub was HORRIBLE. Holy crap, I mean horrible in the worst possible way. Worse than Kenshin. Sousuke is supposed to be a dumb, but gritty guerilla soldier. The English voice actor makes him sound like an extra in the Lord of the Dance troop.
Somebody else already said it higher up in the thread, it's pretty stupid to watch Meiji-era Kenshin with all the characters speaking cardboard English. I know Kenshin (as well as Yahiko) was voiced by a woman in Japan, but she did an awesome job. Unfortunately, I haven't seen many localized anime that seemed to be dubbed by people who cared about something other than picking up a paycheck. Just a quick example of why that's so stupid: Metal Gear Solid. All of us who played the MGS2 teaser disc heard Snake's Japanese voice. Then David Hayter voiced over for us Americans again, but lost nothing of Solid Snake's character. Kenshin Himura, by stark contrast, sounds like a modern day stock broker in English rather than a reluctant samurai. None of the voice actors seem to know how to convey any kind of emotion except "goofy", and it's very annoying.
Anyway, that's my rant on the subject. I feel like watching Stand Alone Complex again, before somebody dubs that in English, too.

I do agree on the emotion thing...and when they're "goofy" it sounds REALLY stupid...like OVERLY goofy. Then again, most dubs are like this IMO (keywords IMO). Only a few seem to have any emotion behind it and are true to the originals (again IMO).
So yeah...in conclusion, Kenshin's dub sux0rs.
