true, the big explosion was caused by akira, but somewher, i think at the begining of the film, it says a nuke was dropped on tokyo...........hmm maybe i m wrong

I thought that was what the Japanese government said to cover-up the entire project and thus started World War III.

You could be right in that the US did this to prevent the experiment and thus started WWIII because of that experiment...but I am fairly sure it was an explosion that they said was caused by a nuke, but covered it up...

on reflection, i have decided i am wrong (this is what a lack of sleep does boys and girls!), at the begining of the film it says

In (i forget the year), a new type of bomb was dropped on tokyo........ blah blah blah....

the point is, yes, this was a cover up story.........i was wrong, every bugger else was right.......again
