actualy, i didnt mind the series dubbed (i did enjoy the japaneese version a tad better though) it just felt like they put alot of effort in the quality of the english VA's for once.. much dibbs for that :o
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..

I actually prefer english subtitles to dubbing. The Japanese voices often fit the characters so well.

Haruka's voice especially cracks me up. I think that the voice fits the character so well.

But I am willing to watch English dubs if it furthers the cause.

I can't imagine FLCL on Cn ever. :?

My younger brother watches CN a lot. It took me a good Q&A session with a fan before I even started to get it. To date, it has to be THE most bizarre anime I have ever seen. Yet I kinda like it. But believe it or not, I think it's bizarreness would bore my brother because he'd have no idea what was going on.

One thing I have to rant about even if I haven't seen FLCL (I haven't)

Why in god's name did they change the title?

It's Furi Kuri, and they change it to fucking Fooly Cooly. It sounds like a damn show for 3 year olds.

How does Fooly Cooly sound like something for 3 year olds? Granted it's something I'd never say myself, ah the beauty of typed conversation. More like something 9-12, but oh, I'll just leave it.

I really shouldn't be posting this... but I just don't care.
With the supposed mass amounts of anime that is available up in USAland why are so many people watching TV? Are you all that poor that you can't afford DVDs?

Ok buddy, time for a little language lesson. First of all, I really dont see what you getting at, Furi Kuri sounds like just has much of a kids show has Fooly Cooly, I dont see why youre gettting so upset. Now, for the little factiod or whatever. When you read what appear japanese words translated into english, it isnt really english. I think its called Roman G or something like that, and it uses english letters, but isnt english(same has spanish uses the same letters but isnt english) Consequently, the pronounciation of the words is not the same has in english. One of the little difference is that the R and L sounds are pretty much indisquinsable. In otherwords, they sound the same. So the words Furi Kuri and Fooly Cooly actually sound pretty much identical when pronounced right, making them pretty much the exact same word. Spelling doesnt matter has long has pronounciation and context are correct in this case.

Thats pretty much what I have learned as well. The Japanese dont have a L sound. The closest is a Ri sound. So We Westerners see a L and call it Fooly Cooly. The Japanese see it and they pronounce it Furi Kuri.

I was told that the Western alphabet used by the Japanese is called Ramji. At first the computers couldnt run the 800 most commonly used characters so they had to adapt their language to the technology at the time. IIRC since the release of unicode that supports more characters it is not as much of a problem.

Dont know if thats correct but that is what I was told by someone studying Japanese.

It's romanji, not Roman G. ;)

And yeah, R and L sounds are very similar in sound when pronounced correctly. Hence the old "flied lice" stereotype/slur from the WW2 era. So, Furi Kuri and Fooly Cooly are pretty much the same thing.

But I'm not adding anything helpful to the conversation, so I'll shut up now.

Oh, and BTW...

I'm poor BECAUSE of buying DVDs and CDs and junk. ;)

One day, I'll have to take a picture of my DVD box 'o duhm.
