Ah! My Goddess - probably the best romance anime ever
His and Her Circumstances(Kare Kano) - right on par with Ah! My Goddess, I really enjoy the way it's done. It is probably the most "real" anime ever made which I really enjoy. The story is told in a great way and it's done my the same people as Neon Genesis and FLCL so it's a quality show.
Love Hina - nice love story with some great comedy
Neon Genesis - one the of only mecha's I've seen, but it's just an all around incredible show.
Duel! - just saw some of this, it's an ok mecha show I guess, but nothing special. I guess you also get some romance, but nothing great.
FLCL - it does have mecha and romance in it and it's just a great story.
See you space cowboy...
Miroku is a king among amine characters
Aliens, are you a peaceful race.
While hell yes, we are barbequing aren't we not.

I read a couple reviews they said it's very weird. Not sure if it's gonna suit my taste. Think I'm gonna need some previews before I can decide.

I think he was also suggesting it since it has mecha (or in this case guymelefs).

Sort of on-topic, but I found the romance in Escaflowne quite a bit better than most typical romances in anime. Then again, that's why it was better(IMO) it wasn't typical and I found it a lot more powerful and deep than most "physical" and typical romances. Given, it's not typical and I guess that's what you wanted. Oh and also, I do agree in that it's more fantasy than romance...just stating that I like it's romance more.

8)

For romance I am a major fan of Tenchi Muyo.

I second the recommendation for Van Dread. It reminds me of Tenchi Muyo only the show has lots of mecha action.

I also recommend Urusei Yatsura for the character Lum. I thought some of those were pretty funny.

And Im in the same boat. Im looking for more romance and mecha anime.
