Ginga Nagareboshi Gin

Post by akatoro » Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:13 pm

Hello.
I'm making this thread as a sort of.. Research project.

I am wondering if anyone of you (scandinavian or not) have ever seen an anime named "Ginga Nagareboshi Gin" (aka. Meteor Silver / Silver Fang) or possibly "Starzinger" (aka. Starketeers) or "Heroic Legend of Prince Arislan" (aka. Arslan Senki)?.

They're all anime's from the 80's and atleast where I'm from, almostevery kid born in 1980 - 1985 have seen 'em and grown up with them. Ginga Nagareboshi Gin is still nostalgic as hell and in my humble opinion, the best anime there is.
- In 2005 the creator of "Ginga" started on a new series called "Ginga Densetsu Weed" (aka. Son of Silverfang) which picks up 6 months after the last battle in the original series and stars the son of "Gin". Point being, you who grew up with the "Ginga"-movies/series, rekindle old memories with the all new series .

To sum up I am now curious if these series were as popular in other countries, because I have not seen a whole lot of non-scandic fan-sites. It'd be fun to hear from you =D.

I'll link to a few sites that have pictures of the series to help speed memory up :P:

Not in Brazil. An anime that almost every Brazillian kid with a TV watched was Saint Seiya. The title was crappily translated to what would be in English "Knights of the Zodiac" but it was still very good and very popular. I feel like I'm five years old when I watch it again.

Second place here would have been either Captain Tsubasa or Shurato. But I've never even heard of the ones you named. It's all down to what the big networks in each country want to buy and broadcast. Different things work for different audiences.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

Well, as far as "Starzinger" is concerned, I remember seeing a series called "Spaceketeers" which aired as one of the five series under the "Force Five" aegis in the mid-1980's. The full Japanese name is Science Fiction Saiyuki Starzinger. The other series in Force Five were Dangard Ace (Jap. Wakusei Robo Dangard A), Grandizer (UFO Robot Grandizer), Gaiking (Daikyu Maryû Gaiking), and Starvengers, which was Getter Robo and Getter Robo G respectively.

I don't remember this series as much as say, Battle of the Planets, but Starzinger/Spaceketeers was a pretty weird series (Spaceketeers = Space Musketeers  ) and fun to watch, though I liked Danguard Ace better. Looking at the pic of Princess Aurora, it just dawned on me who Polly Esther from Samurai Pizza Cats is modelled after....
