Dear God, why did I miss this? And why did the rest of you ignore it.
BUMP FOR GREAT JUSTICE.
Kimagure Orange Road is my favorite series of all time. I own both boxed sets, and the first DVD version of the second movie, as well as the manga. I own four posters, the Madoka book, Matsumoto Izumi's Graphic Anthology, most of the Original Soundtracks, 3 of 5 Radio Play CDs, a .45 record single, AnimEigo's VHS insert of romanized lyrics and trivia facts, and other little odd bits and pieces of KOR memorabilia.
I believe my favorite character would have to be Madoka and Kyosuke as a pair. The two are incomplete individually, and actually, sometimes downright pathetic apart. The reason I (we?) watch is to see them as a couple.
I mostly pity Hikaru. At first I loved her, as Madoka seemed cold. But then I realized Hikaru is manipulative, immature, and shallow. Madoka is just insecure. I couldn't hate Hikaru though. She honestly loves Kyosuke, she's just not fair about it.

WATCH MY VIDEO NOW! J/K
This is the series that if I had to do an Iron Editor, I'd use it for footage. I have to stop myself from using KOR in video projects for fear of over-using it (not like it is over used by the AMV community at large, but I don't want to use it like a crutch for footage). I atm, have 2 video ideas that will use KOR in whole or in part, 1 video that is probably changing it's focus from a "finale" video to a "thanks for the memories" video (now that AnimEigo will not be able to continue releasing it), 1 AMV trailer, and 1 concept that may not pan out for possible lack of footage.
This series is special to me because it was the first "romantic comedy" anime I ever saw, and it was different in the fact that it was kinda a slice-of-life show. The characters go out on dates, attend tennis camp, go to the pool, take a trip to the beach, work at their part time jobs, etc.
I learned from this anime how the Japanese school system works (well, this anime and Maison Ikkoku), a bit about Japanese juvenile delinquents, about Tanabata, about "nosebleeds", and about Espers.
It has elements of Comedy, Drama, Romance, Action, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Music, and Sports genres. It's got Tennis, Basketball, Soccer, Bicycling, Running, Swimming, Paddling, Surfing, Hiking, Skiing, Skateboarding, Karate, and Wrestling. It's got Singing, Dancing, Saxophone/Piano/Guitar/Drum playing, Photograghy, Videography, and Cooking. It parodies "The Graduate", "Top Gun", "Godzilla", "Big Wednesday", "Paradise" (and/or "The Blue Lagoon"), "American Graffiti", and others.
My 10 (11) favorite episodes (in order of release):
Episode 1 - We get to meet Makoda for the first time. Is this the same girl?
Episode 3 - The "first date".
Episode 5 - Kyosuke and Madoka get closer...
Episode 14 - Hey Madoka, aren't you getting kinda close to Kyosuke's face...?
Episode 19 - Mermaid Madoka. 'Nuff said.
Episode 34 - The gang goes to visit Kyosuke's grandparents.
Episode 43 - Hikaru finds out Kyosuke and Yukari spent the night together.
Episode 47 & 48 - The finale.
OVA Episode "White Lovers" - Silly Hikaru, do you realize what you are doing?
OVA Episode "Message in Rouge" - Madoka runs away from home.
