NGE isn't a bad show, but it's very, very overhyped.

If you really want to try to understand Eva, you have to watch the whole thing and even then it might not make complete sense to you.

Doesn't kind of depend on what you like the anime for as to which is your favorite?

Like a genre or character bases for liking an anime?

Here is a few and why.

FLCL - head case of sub plots and hidden meaning

DBZ - straight forward good vs evil karate action

Ghost in the Shell - philisophical concept

Yu Yu Hakushou - cast of bad-ass antihero characters

Hack Sign - interesting non-action story

Ranma - Romantic Comedy

Fatal Fury - video game cross over

Inuyasha - love/hate theme

Outlaw Star - scifi space anime

Trigun - gun slinging anime

Evangelion - bizarre concepts and religous symbolism

There is more but hey I could just about say A to Z and list those to omit.
