your thoughts on Memories

Post by Bebop0083 » Sat Feb 28, 2004 11:03 pm

well i just picked up this anime tonight and i have to say that this was one strange anime. of course not as weird as FLCL but still has a shot at it especialy the Cannon Fodder episode. but i like Magnetic Rose the best. so whats your thoughts on it and whats your favorite episode? but i was surprised when i picked this up that it wasnt dubbed. i thought it was strange for Columbia to do some thing like that.

I picked up a R2 copy a few years back (after having seen it four years ago at Katsucon). I have to say that this is one of my favorite anime titles, and my personal favorite from Katsuhiro Otomo (Yes, I enjoyed it more than Akira.). My favorite episode's Magnetic Rose as well (a great sci-fi horror story), but I also enjoyed Stink Bomb (VERY dark comedy -- the whole Army, Navy, and Air Force trying to take out this one man, and they ALL MISS!) and Cannon Fodder (Dare you NOT to blink during this long no-cut sequence!).

As for there not being an English dub, it doesn't bother me (the R2 DVD had no English dub, only subs). DreamWorks did the same thing w/ Millenium Actress. If anything, I'm just a little disappointed that Columbia didn't put the regular 2.0 stereo mix along with the Dolby Digital 5.1 (not EVERYONE has surround sound).

I love Memories.

Magnetic Rose is gorgeous, well written and well directed...

In fact, it was so well directed that I knew that things were going to be bad right away when they entered the ship during the crescendo in the aria from Madam Butterfly. What a great, great use of the whole art form of film and animation!

Stink Bomb was amusing. Just a funny story.

Cannon Fodder was another amazing piece of animation. Very Orwellian.
What a wonderful piece of work.

I don't have the DVD, but I have a VHS copy from the Japanese Laser Disc. Looking forward to picking up the DVD.

I got the HK and R2 of Memories and I'm a bit skeptical about picking up the domestic one since Columbia didn't bother to dub it...

Why should I pay 26 bucks for something I already own 2 of that has the same language? :P

Other than that, I'm glad people will finally be able to see it now. :D

i got it for 22 bucks at Bestbuy thats your best bet if you plan on buying it again. i think the R2 has subtitles on it at least the one i saw on animenation.com did and it was R2. i think David Lucas (Spike off Cowboy Bebop) would of been good for Heinz's voice and the voice of Jet off Cowboy Bebop for Ivanov but thats my opinion. i was disapointed that there wasnt a dub i was trying franticaly to find out where the dub was only to find out there wasnt a dub.
