Did anyone get the Director's Cut volumes of Eva, Question

Post by LittleKefalos » Tue Feb 17, 2004 11:58 pm

If anyone does have the director's cut of the evangelion shows (I think it's two disks the last few episodes) I was wondering about two main things.

1. Are they any good? How are they different?

2. For the DVD specials there is supposed to be footage of the pre-production of the Eva movie and an interview with Weta's Richard Taylor. So what does it look like and what does R. Taylor say? Anything worthwhile.

Thanks for any answers, I don't think I will be buying these versions I just want to know some things, maybe I'll be able to rent them at some point, not sure (I'm still going to hold out for the potential of a new box set-- which make take 10 years )

Hmm, surprised you haven't gotten a reply yet. I guess everyone was getting ready to watch WHR.

I got the director's cut scenes from a fansub last november/december. I think they are worth picking up. Alot more goes happens that helps clarify a few things. Most notable, outside of Asuka mind rap scene, is Rei blowing herself up.

Some scenes aren't even in the series. Other are extended. There is a site that has a full description of what happens. I forget the name, but try searching for "evangelion deleted scenes" or "director's cut scenes"

Shouldn't be hard to find.

As for number 2, I wouldn't know cause I got the fansub.

Thanks Kracus, you were right I did find a site.

Here it is: http://www.evaotaku.com/director_cut/

and just go to the link at the very bottom, it does a pretty good job of stating the extra stuff and boy is it interesting.

Anyways the question as to what the happens in the extras on the new DVD is still open... so anyone...?

The first Director's Cut DVD includes a 25-minute interview with two of the head designers from Weta Workshop. It includes screenshots of a couple dozen production sketches, including designs for three different Eva pilots, the NERV control center, the Eva hangar, New City, and lots more.

It was the first thing I watched when I opened the DVD, and it was well worth it. The new footage in the episodes is fantastic as well, I'd definately recommend buying it.
