what does ecchi really mean?

some people say it means perverted, some say it's porn what does it mean can anyone clear it up for me?

Ecchi is the equivelent of a bit of nudity/sex in a series, IIRC. Take Ranma 1/2 for an example. Just because that show has nudity in it doesn't mean it's hentai, it'd be Ecchi, IIRC.

It's literally the phonetic pronounciation of the letter "H". It's something with sexual undertones, more or less what was said above.

the first letter in "Hentai" meaning, not hentai, but close to it...

It was explained this way to me...

Hentai is X-Rated - Anything involving graphic sex... While some shows are more graphic than others, they would all be Hentai

Ecchi is more R-Rated material... (and I was told the movie American Pie was a good example to use as what counted as Ecchi)

But then, AP isn't anime, is it? Hentai would be anything that would have a rating of NC-17, or X. LA Blue Girl, F3, Lady Blue Girl, etc. would be Hentai.

Series like Ranma 1/2, which has occasional nudity would be considered Ecchi, as it's not hardcore sex/nudity.

I'm just saying that American Pie paints a good picture for what Ecchi is.

When I use American Pie as an example, people instantly know what I mean...

I often have to explain this stuff to people who only know a little about anime or are familliar with a title or two.
