I got the first couple DVD's. I like it. It's nothing great but entertaining. Although the main guy is a little bitchy bitch. I hope he grows a pair later in the series.

Watched it recently as it aired on adult swim. (Love my Tivo for doing those late night recordings for me!) I didn't really get into the show until about 8 episodes in, then it seemed to catch my attention more. It gets better and the second half of the show is pretty darn good. Ending is so-so - not what I expecting at all. It just didn't seem to fit. Things fit together and really build well thru ep 24. Nothing really made sense about the last 2 episodes-
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
What's up with the one bad-ass blue at the end? the weird fucking light? 2nd earth blowing up? what does Yuji do in the light?
Oh, well, not a terrible ending, but it just didn't seem to fit well with the story up to that point.

The last remaining super Blue I think was a test by Gaia. Only a B-cell pilot could defeat it and that ensured that whoever survived the fight would have the B-clls needed to enter the light and merge with the concsiousness.
I think the light and egg like thing was the evolved form of the Blue. The Blue migrated to a central spot in Brazil, merged their life energy and abandoned thier bodies. They became a collective intelligence. There job as antibodies to exterminate the human canceer infecting the earth was done. Notice that in the Blue light poining skyward was what looked like a DNA strand.
Yuji having B-cells was drawn to enter the egg like thing. It is crucial to understand that Yuji has to make a choice. The humans have "defeated" the Blue. They can can go back to the station and mans old destructive ways or Yuji can enter the egg and show that humans have evolved and are willing to live with nature and discontinue the ways of violvence and destroying the earth.
Yuji chose to enter the egg and the Gaia nad Blue intelligence merged with Yuji and they learned and understood from each other. The intelligence showed Yjui that by choosing nature and earth all of the Planet was theirs as long as humans chose to live with nature and not be so destructive. And then the intelligence showed Yuji what would have happened had he and Marlene went back to the station.
The sole factor that brought humans to the station in the first place was the Blue. As long as human had a common enemy and a purpose they were fine. As soon as the Blue were gone they lost their purpose, their reason for living and no longer worked together. You notice how everyone was sitting in the station like they were lost and had nothing to do. And eventually someone got tired of the situation and as humans are want to do , grabbed a gun and decided to take over and change it all. A rebellion broke out and soon the fighting grew til it destroyed the station. I see the events and demise of the station as a miniature version of what would have happened had the old ways of man returned to earth. He would have eventually destroyed it. I do not think the intelligence ordered the humans to kill each other. Humans were more than capable of that on their own.
And by showing Yuji that Marlene was pregnant and waiting for him the intelligence showed Yuji that there was a future awaiting them on earth.
I think all the light pointing skyward at the end and the band of light around the equator was showing the dawn of a new age of man and nature.
