Spoilers - Just finished Chobits and now I am depressed as h

Post by Anlushac11 » Sun Sep 21, 2003 7:56 am

8)

Up until episode 15 I thought Chobits was great.

Motosuwa I thought had Hibiya(the landlady), the teacher Shimizu, and Yumi-chan. And he loses all three. For some reason it really bothered me that Motosuwa didnt get anywhere with Shimizu and I thought OK he still has Yumi...nope that one got away too.

I like Chii alot but I cant picture myself marrying a Persocon, because in the back of my mind I would always know it was a machine and I would always be wondering is it Chii or the program responding.

And Hiibiya to me turned out sorta cold blooded. It seems to me she was willing to delete data and reset the OS and Chii so she could get her daughter back.

I cant put my finger on it but what started out as a delightful and fun show has left me depressed and with a big empty feeling. Im going to have to watch a few epsiodes of Happy Leson Advance or Excel Saga to keep from blowing my brains out. I wasnt this depressed with the End Of Evangelion.

That's Clamp for you. They can make ANY situation into a melodramatic plot (w/ the exception of Miyuki-chan in Wonderland - I think they were smoking on something when they created this). I know the ending was pretty depressing.

My sister and I came up with a term for ending that leave you either unfullfilled or depressed. Now, whenever a show ends like this we dub it a CLAMP Ending. I even got my former English teacher to use the term... He says he now has a way to explain books that leave him unfullfilled.

Major CLAMP Endings:
Chobits, X, Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth (so says my sister), etc for pretty much every CLAMP show...

And non-CLAMP CLAMP Endings:
Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Escaflowne, Yami no Matsuei... and a really major one just popped out of my mind...

CLAMP Endings aren't technically bad, they're just kind of random.

Fruits Basket! That was it... I had to stare at my icon for a while to remember it.

I don't know. To me there was laways a hidden depressing vibe going on ever since she started to read those stories so when the moments of truth started to happen I was not really shocked. I am kid of glad it turned out the way it did at the end. Chii is Chii despite the fact that she is a program or not. It's just who she is and he fell for that. I think X the movie and X TV were more depressing. (X the movie takes the friggin cake though.) CCS didn't have too bad of an ending after watchign the second movie. (It leaves you hanging in the air....if you know what I mean. )

the way i see it, there can't really be a future anime that doesn't have ANY slightly depressing themes to it. the future is a change of the present, and since ppl are comfy with constants, any change ruins that.

for example, the whole theme of chobits is: is love really going to conquer it all? meaning, does yr partner HAVE TO be human, of the opp gender, etc to be, well...normal. for the present day marrying a robot is preposterous. okay, so make the robot sentient and able to respond to love without a program. would that be okay? just WHAT is love exactly? what do you need, what don't you need?

its a new topic to speculate, and ppl don't have all the answers. that probably is what caused the depression some ppl out there feel cuz no matter what they do...something is sacrificed.

I'm almost done with the series. I just need to read Vol. 8 of the manga. From the beginning, though (at least to me), you can tell the ending will be depressing.
