Good analogy, that reminds me... I should actually watch those movies sometime. I've only seen the cartoon.Nurd wrote:Normal is relative, in theory the average IQ is the "Normal" IQ. If that's the case man we got some dumb SOBs living around us. Not only are alot of people stupid though. There are alot of people that just feel that they HAVE to complain about something. I work at a grocery store and people will complain or get upset over the dumbest things. Such as such great classics as.
"What do you mean you don't take American Express? Why not? You HAVE to put up a sign that warns us that you don't take American Express you know"
"Why is the frozen orange juice all the way in the back of the store, I shouldn't have to walk all the way back there. You should put it closer to the front of the store"
I know there are some other really great ones but for some reason none of them come to mind at the moment.
Your life reminds me of the guy from Clerks: "No ice? You mean I have to drink this coffee hot? "

The problem with most stupid people - they sweat the small stuff.
Like the orange juice debacle Ozzie mentioned. A normal person doesn't worry about the location of the juice - they concern themselves with the price, availability, and how much they need - all of which are far more relevant concerns.
I think a normal, average IQ falls in the 90-110 range.

I agree with the lady and I dont.
Points I agree with:
1. Shows that are rated 15+ should be rated as such. I still believe that some of these shows just dont belong on basic cable, especially a channel dedicated to children's cartoons.
2. Shows like FLCL dont belong on CN, calling a show "adult swim" doesn't change the fact that it is located on a network for children. If they are gonna show shows that are for mature audiences they should switch from a childrens network to a more adult themed network, for example something like FX (they get away with alot of shit).
Points I disagree with:
1. Blaming shows for bad parenting is just lame.
2. Thinking that a network is going to make sure that a show meets "your" approval is just ignorant. A parent must check what their children our watching. Dont assume a thing.
Also taking stuff like this lightly is a mistake. The recording industry thought that Tipper Gore was a joke until she got a law passed requiring stickers on cds if they have questionable material. This has resulted in several major stores banning cds with labels or requiring that they be edited of all questionable content before they can be sold in their stores. I know they will eventually get their way and only edited anime will be played or anime will be kicked off the network completely (which I dont care either way). I do believe that people should be open minded and children shouldn't be sheltered at a certain age. But some of the stuff shown on cable now adays is really stretching it. It is true that shows are rated and parents should watch the program with their children but lets face it we cant be with our children 24/7 and they are able to access tvs easier and easier these days.
I know that editing sux, and its one of the reasons I dont watch CN anymore, but this is the only option CN will have in order to keep their sponsors (trust me if parents band together and boycott items, the companies will pull sponsorships). Maybe if they switched AS to 3am it would be a better time slot to get away with crap, because if they keep it where it is, their gonna screwed one of these days.

Werd! However, parents will always blame mistakes they have made on other things, it will seem right because other parents who made the same mistake will follow them. Its a bad processArigatomyna wrote:The reason I blame parenting is because the woman says the show could 'possibly incite violence.' And if parents weren't so 'hands-off' with their children, they wouldn't have to worry about some kid bringing a gun to school or acting violent against others - they'd have been taught better than that either by fear or plain old common sense and respect for rules and ethics. You don't learn that from Adult Swim or even daytime CN shows - it's up to the parents. They're blaming the anime for doing something that a bit of good parenting would make very improbably to begin with. Besides, if a child doesn't know the difference between cartoon violence and real guns, I'd say some parent needs to go back to school and learn how to explain things - because the kids a ditz (and she's talking about *teenagers* not little 6yr olds).

MAS Productions, you make some good points, but you say that it's a children's network. I have honestly never seen cartoon network advertised as a children's network. Only advertised as a network for cartoons and animation. Do they have programming for children? Sure they do? Does that make it a children's network though? Course it doesnt. Netoworks like ABC may play children's programming, but I wouldnt necessarily want a child to watch a good many of the programs that they show at night.
Cartoon Network being a network for animation, not for children, decided to add a linup of more mature animation. I see nothing wrong with this.
However I do agree FLCL definately shouldnt be rated PG, it should have gotten at least a tv-14 rating.
