Really, Live action anime adaptations can really work depending on the director and the team working on the project. If they themselves love the anime or that certain anime enough to treat it with the respect it needs, it will definatly show in the film, otherwise it will be shit.

Why are they making so many anime live actions now, what are they trying to prove

I think maybe the Japs are having the same prob as everyone else.
Making Profit is more important than originality. People seem more interested in making money from things than making them good.

There are few exeptional movies being made these days. Too few even.
