Fan Art vs Original Art

have you ever noticed any fan art surpasing the quality of the original art? I've kinda seen a few drawings of Lain that i don't think were in the series but look better then she did in the series. But then again it's Lain, and the art in that sereis is somewhat below par ... But if you have any examples post them here ... i forgot where those picutes were though other wise i'd have posted them...
