the series ending did seem a lot warmer after watching both consequently. BUT, i also noticed that EoE takes on a different feeling depending on the mindset you have when you watch it. I noticed that if you sit down intending to watch it cuz you're bored and you wanna watch a movie while letting your mind drift and thinking about what to say to the hawt girl in chemistry class tomorrow then it'll be a total mindfuck. But if you watch it because its a kick ass end of the world flick with all kinds of religious symbolism and a great ending to the evangelion series or when you're just pissed at people in general I've found it to be incredibly good. So generally its not a good movie to watch for the fun of it but on the other hand a great movie to watch as the end of eva (duhhhh :3 )

I'm tired of talking about EVA on these boards.
People who miss the more obvious of the subtle stuff frustrate me
People who use the term "psycho-babble" for ANYTHING that deals with psychology and philosophy...
and people who try to talk about the religious implications of EVA without knowing anything about the actual texts that the series is based on...
When you have someone like Taliesin Jaffe showing you the images from his $800 tome of Khaballic Lore and show how ancient symbols created before the time of Christ being used as the basis for the design of technological items in the show... then you begin to grasp what a raw piece of genius Evangelion is.
Anyway... I will only discuss EVA with people who e-mail me.
I'm tired of talking about it on the board.
Just reading some of the posts here (not all) made me want to start ranting again... but I won't. I'm just going to post this and once again say that if you really want to discuss EVA, e-mail me.
I don't have all the answers... but I have had many amazing discussions and I will be happy to share my thoughts.

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

theres nothing wrong with the word psychobabble :P
as for the signs, well, you probably werent directing that toward me, but of course any respectable eva fan will have spent hours online researching all the crap they loaded into there with the kabbala and other such jewish symbolism used constantly throughout the series and movies.
I actually had a kabbalist explain some of the junk to me personally :/
Thats what makes eva so great for analytical people and at the same time such a pain in the ass ;P
Just to add to the above, I showed eva to my friend who is extremely obsessively into the occult and ethereal things. The kind of stuff she's into is really amazing (tk, astral projection, etc. Some of the books she's given to me to read are pretty incredible). Anyway she naturally gobbled it up.

I love both endings, actually, but I think the ending of EoE is more positive. In EoE Shinji rejects instrumentality. Even though the world might look really awful at that point, he's at least chosing to live. His mom also mentions to him that since he has come back, others who have the will to come back, can return to their bodies if they choose. It's not really as dark as some people think, with the entire population of Earth being erradicated.Chaos Angel wrote:I love the series ending. True, EoE may wrap up some of the narrative aspects, but the series ending handled the aspects that were the most important: the character development and psychological study. Plus, the series ending is so much more positive than EoE. EoE just hurts the mind to watch it.
As for the series ending, even though I've rejected this idea for awhile, the last time I saw it, I fell into the group that feels that Shinji has decided to be complemented through the instrumentality project...which is an ending much sadder and negative than EoE imo.
Are you down with the sound of the Devil's town?
