I've been using Movie Studio for over a year now, and it's a heck of a step up from WMM, but the lack of masking bothers me. It really limits what I can mask to the chroma keyer tool, because the only version of photoshop I have is elements 3.0, which is useless. I've tested the limits of my program, and I've been thinking of buying pro to learn some more advanced editing and effects.
I know that Vegas Pro has masking and unlimited video tracks, but is that the only difference between pro and movie studio? I'm only in high school, so if I'm going to spend the money on a nicer program I want to know more about it, because it's pretty expensive for me. Is Vegas pro worth it, or should I stick with Movie Studio?
And I know that previous versions of Vegas are less expensive, but how much do they differ from Movie Studio 8? I don't want to suddenly be confronted with a program I don't know how to use. And is there a reliable place I can buy an older version from if I decide to do that?
What are the benefits of Vegas Pro over Vegas Movie Studio?

anyways the only movie studio version I have is like 4.0 or something there is a lot different between the two versions imho, but aside from numbers of tracks and the whole masking thing, i can't remember what...
but if you are seriously interested in getting into masking in vegas, then you will want to upgrade, also having more than three tracks = win
