Video footage problems, using Vegas 8.0

Hey guys!

Anyways I converted some mkv files to avi, and started putting them on Vegas. When I play the files by themselves (outside of vegas) it looks just fine. And for about 90% it looks fine on Vegas. However at key points where the scenes changes drastically, I get moments like this

This is the first frame in a new scene, and the image thats bleeding through it is from the previous frame. This is happening alot and I was originally going to just cut these out but they're started to pop up at key moments I want to include in my video. Any suggestions?

(I tried messing around with the properties of the clips, trying the disable resample, and such)

What codec did you use for the .avi files?

I used Xvid, at 768 bitrate

I know I know! Look, I tried to open the mkv file with VirtualDubMod. Wouldn't accept it. So then I turned to the only reliable application I know that takes mkv, which is Xvid4PSP. All of the other higher quality codecs take WAY too long (I waited 45 minutes and was only at 6 percent..., and this was for a 2 minute clip..... I'm not waiting that long for a mere clip). So I took the xvid route, and it plays well by itself but Vegas seems to not like it. Ok so I guess the reason is because I used the xvid codec right? Is there any way to at least minimize this? Because using the other codecs doesn't seem like an option , since VirtualDubMod only works for 20% of the time I want to use it for an mkv file....

Try making it an avs file, see if it works faster.

Yeah, use directshowsource and go through V-dub.
