Using subclips in vegas

Post by Kanti13 » Sat May 31, 2008 1:49 pm

Ok, I'm a complete noob to vegas. I started making AMVs in WMM, and I've used Magix for a good while. In both of these systems you could import episodes of an anime, make many clips/takes from many different epsodes, and then use those to make many AMVs.

So I'm just finishing my first AMV in vegas 8 and I want to start a second one with same anime, but I can't for the life of me find out how to get to all my clips in the new project. I spent a lot of time making at least 50 subclips, probably more, and I'm really hoping that you don't have to make the clips all over again for every AMV you make :?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, if all else fails, just do a "Save as..." on your former project and voila, you have a new project with all the same clips in it. Just wipe the timeline and start over.
... yea ...

you can just drag and drop them into vegas... go to the folder and drop them in to the media bin....

That's the problem though. The subclips only seem to be available through the open project that you first created them in. I tried making a new media bin with the project open, and I could put them in that, but there was no way of getting to it when I opened a new project. I have the media manager, but it only includes the full episodes that I used and things I've rendered. :x It's quite frustrating.

Yeah, I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but it looks like I might have to. :( It just sucks cuz it means that there is no way for me to work on more than one amv at a time. At least not from the same anime.
Thanks for the response though.

when you say subclips do you mean clips you've taken and cut up and inserted into the timeline to use?

Ok I might be a bit confusing(I confuse myself aswell sometimes)

Did you

Take a clip(section from episode)
Cut up and deleted parts you didn't need in the section
Added effects to clip and is displayed in finished amv?

if it is,then just open 2 vegas windows, then copy 1 clip and paste it on the other :D

i believe they are talking about the subclips they have created by right clicking (either clips on the timeline or a selection on the trimmer) and choosing "create subclip"

(though I was thinking something entirely differently)
in which case Living Flame had the right idea O.o

Of course you can. Multiple project files = multiple projects with the same anime. o_O

Example:
"Project A.veg" has footage from...let's say Evangelion in it. It also has all your subclips with a cluttered timeline. (I'm assuming that when you say "subclip" you mean that you actually right clicked and said "Make Subclip," which would then put the subclip in your media bin.)

From there you do "Save as" and save a new project called "Project B.veg". Delete everything out of the timeline, but not out of the Project Media tab/media bins. Do a normal "Save" (as in NOT "Save as").

You now have two projects - the first (Project A.veg) has all your clips in it along with your filled out timeline for the first AMV. The second has all your clips in it as well, but has a fresh, blank timeline.

Two projects, same anime, same subclips, no hassle.
... yea ...
