Problem with Sony Vegas (inserting video)

Post by DMXDQTXR » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:20 am

Hello people

I'm fairly new with editing video's and I have little experience, so excuses for my dumb questions :) When I try to put a video track in Vegas 7.0, I came to the conclusion that I can't upload much. With this I mean they won't render any video, because they don't have the codecs or whatsoever. For example, they can't edit the file Absolution_(Allegretto_Productions). By the way, I only use this sample as example, I'm not going to steal it or to do something else 8-)

The main question now is to how to solve it?

1. Do Vegas has function that he automatically converts all video to one specific format as you decide?

2. Do they all need to consist of the amount of frame (when combining 2 video's of different anime or movies)?

3. Do I need to convert them all first with a program, before editing? If so, what's the best format to edit?

4. Is it due to my codec pack on PC? I had some trouble with this though, likely I can't play WMV propely, without opening two players. I mean the first player plays the video not watchable, but the second does it perfectly. I close the first one and watch it on the second video player. My friend who works with codecs said it was due to WMP. Now I have version 9, but I had version 11 and with that all my codecs crashed (even the simple ones like AVI where unplayable).

Thank you for reading or answering my question :D

yes. either huffyuv or lagarith are best for working in Vegas

and i have a sense this might be your problem:

I have 6.0, but I still think I understand you're problem.
I'm not quite sure exactly why some videos work and others don't when they have the same extension, but my friend recommended: Super .... yes, it's just called "Super." You can probably find it on download.com. It's a extension/codec converter thing. My version of Vegas takes MPEGs.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

the deal some compressions were made for editing and some were not made for editing. here is a list of editable codecs... its always best to edit with uncompressed footage, BUT since most people do not have that kind of hard drive space it is suggested you compress your video source files to lagarith or huffyuv as both codecs are lossless codecs and were MADE for editing pretty much...

that is of course if you want to have a nice clean quality, and not lower your visual quality due to using overly compressed lossy sources.

Not only that, but editing with DivX(since I know that Vegas can't open XviD video steam) will make it slow as hell, and editing with DivX itself is slower than editing with lossless in like 3 times minimum(hope I told everything right).

No,you have to convert files before editing (note: look at question&answer 3).

Footage may differ as much as you want, that may be from 1 frame picture,to 99999999 frames movie, etc. I think I understood your question right...

Download the AMVApp 3.0 beta - it has mostly everything you'll need for editing. As for converting your footage - use VDubMod. Justas Jaddzia said, you should use either : Huffyuv or Lagarith. If you'll have any problems with it,post 'em and we'll answer 'em!

Download the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack),it contains Media Player Classic(MPC),that'll playback almost everything.

I hope that this helped at least a bit.

Thanks for answering.

I see most of my movies are compressed or otherwise they are way too big. Noncompressed and types like Huffyuv works best. When I have spare time, I will convert some video's and try editing.

Also eovideo works with trial, which I don't like. But the AMVApp 3.0 beta is free I quess, altough I can't seem to find the older version, since they stated that the beta is more for the advanced users?

Of course it's free, since it was made by editors for editors. And about advanced users - this version contains more programs, that might be needed for advanced users, other than that - there's no actual difference between this and older version.

Glad that I could be of some help.

Thanks for let me knowing that :D As for the current, I know enough, but I need to make some time to read all times and then start working. However, school is keeping me really busy and I hope I'll get some spare time soon 8-)

I'm getting into trouble with that Vdubmod. It seems like a cut and paste program, where you can cut out scenes or something? However, I got a problem, that when I try to save as avi, mkv or ogm, then the 30 sec. scene will turn out in 500 MB! even though the entire file (1,5 hour) is 700 MB :? I don't understand a thing right now.... :(
