vegas 7: it doesn't play avi

Post by Squancho » Wed Jul 18, 2007 2:07 pm

I keep getting the message, "video stream attributes could not be determined" when I try to open an avi to the timeline. When I do get a visual, it tells me the file format isn't supported when I try and play. What is happening here? What can I do to fix this?

what is the codec of the file? to get codec information right-click on the video file, and choose "properties" and click the tab that says "summery" it should be listed next to compression and if that doesnt work, get a program called GSpot and drop the file in it

Now I have another problem: no sound. I know it's playing, but nothing comes out of the speakers or headphones. I even updated the plugins and drivers; still nothing. I can't make AMVs if I can't hear anything. Why now of all times? :(

I have this problem too and I don't need a codec. Try converting the video file into another format. I tried to convert from avi to wma and it works now, why don't you try to do so?

its not a matter of "needing the codec" its a matter of using a codec that is good to edit with

Hmm... Vegas can't use xvid obviously (I believe that can't be changed?)... but It can work with divix... Does anybody have any recomendation for a program to use to convert from xvid to something else thats playable in vegas? And btw... In the end, what is the format to use in Vegas?
