the most widely used Codec's are FLV, SWL, RM, Divx, Xvid and Mpeg but, these are FINAL CODEC's ( the Final Step in Finishing your Project. )
if you MUST use something that is COMPRESSED then use Indio5.0 -- it is used by almost every Editor ever made ( 1993 to present )
Sure your video may take a lot of time to encode at 100% but its as close to RAW/MOV ( .mov is a MAC type of AVI ) as you can get.
if not, then look for any codec that say's Video For Windows ( VFW Standards )

I've got a better idea: how about using something that is LOSSLESS (no generational quality loss, replicates the image data exactly), well known to work with Vegas, and NOT OLD AS HELL? Something like, I dunno, <b>HuffYUV</b> or <b>Lagarith</b> (both of which were suggested upthread)?post-it wrote:if you MUST use something that is COMPRESSED then use Indio5.0 -- it is used by almost every Editor ever made ( 1993 to present )
Where the hell did you get the idea that QuickTime (.MOV, as you say) is equivalent in quality to raw? The QuickTime format is a CONTAINER, just like .AVI, that supports many different video codecs, most of which are lossy. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but most of the QuickTime files available on the internet (many of which are movie trailers, from what I've seen) are nowhere near big enough to be lossless.post-it wrote:Sure your video may take a lot of time to encode at 100% but its as close to RAW/MOV ( .mov is a MAC type of AVI ) as you can get.
In other words, just about ANY VIDEO CODEC that can be shoved into the AVI container, INCLUDING DivX? Yeah, that worked so well for the OP, didn't it?post-it wrote:if not, then look for any codec that say's Video For Windows ( VFW Standards )
Or did you not bother to read the <s>first</s> second post?
