Sony Sells Vegas Assets to Magix Software

Post by GloryQuestor » Thu Jun 23, 2016 10:49 am

It looks like Movie Studio & Vegas Pro has a new company. Just got this e-mail recently:
Magix Software wrote:Movie Studio is entering into a brand new era!

Since the acquisition of Movie Studio and other tools from Sony Creative Software, our entire development team in Madison, Wisconsin is working tirelessly to take video editing to the next level.

This means that at the end of February 2017, you can look forward to the most advanced Movie Studio yet. The new version will come with exciting new features and a new name: VEGAS Movie Studio.

Here's a sneak peek of some of the highlights in the upcoming version:

» New video effects
» Multi-cam editing
» Travel route animation
» and much more

Stay tuned for more updates and get ready for the all new VEGAS Movie Studio 14!

Sincerely,

Klaus Schmidt
CEO MAGIX Software GmbH
This was previously announced last month on RedShark News, and it is actually surprising that Sony was even considering "[dropping Vegas] altogether" as the article says, considering that it is still one of the most popular video editing programs. While I am glad to see Vegas assets were bought up by a company that already has a long record of video and audio editing, it still remains to be seen if the new VEGAS Movie Studio will continue on the legacy of the original.

Any thoughts on the sale and what it could mean for the Vegas / Movie Studio line?

Seems like it's for the better. I think Sony has enough products to maintain as it is so selling Vegas/Movie Studio to a company where media production is the focus sounds pretty smart, and I think ol' Magix would be more capable and willing to make Vegas more on par with Adobe's products.
