Hurray,I can use my VDubMod little guide again XD Here it is :

--------------------------------------

First,you open vdubmod :

Image

then, just press "File" section, and there choose "Open Video File" :

Image

after you opened your file, you may use some effects on it (but that is not neccessary),and most likely you won't use them (now). but there are other useful things,as "Framerate" and "Compression" :

Image

after you've done that, now you can save render video you want,to do that press button "Save As..." :

Image

here you choose all properties that your exported (rendered) footage will have (in other word "Export Settings") :

Image

now you need to choose compression method, A.K.A. "Export Codec" ; to do that, press button "Change" which you can find at the right bottom of "Save As..." window :

Image

in there you may choose codec,as exmaple i chosen "DivX" ,but if you have questions about other codecs,or if you have lost of hdd space, and want very good quality, then just use "Huffyuv".

now, when you chosen your codec, you may save your file. to do that, just write file name, chose folder, and that's all. except for there are two ways to export your file , that is "Segmented" and "Non-Segmented" (or just "Full") :

Image

this is "Non-Segmented" way. it export your file that way, which way it was imported to VDubMod.

Image

and this is "Segmented" way. you may chose how much you want each segment size to be (in other words, using "Segmented" way is like breaking your video(i suppose you'll import full eps into VDubMod) into clips) it may also be called "Clipping" . Exmaple : you chosen "DivX" codec,so your Episode will be broken into ~20 peaces (it's just an example, real count of Segments are different almost always). each Segment will last ~1-2 mins. in other words,it's like clips in WMM.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

now here's one more thing you should know . if you want to crop out fansubs, then just go to "Video" menu, chose "Filters" , and there chose "Add" :

Image

there mark filter named "Null Transform" and press "OK".

after done that, press button named "Cropping" :

Image

and there you see a screen with your video inside. Y1 offset cropping, leads from down , Y2 offset leads from up , X1 offset leads from left , and X2 offset leads from right. so when you're cropping,in cropped place you'll see gray color, that gray color marks cropped place.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was waiting for 7 months to post this post again XD

The Origonal Head Hunter and especially Rapture** thank you very much :D Your guideline is very helpful, kudos my friend, only I don't understand the last part about crop out? Is the same as cropping in photoshop? Cut away some pixels? And I also saw the framrate option, but it might cause error in the synth with video and audio I read. How serious is this? And do somebody actually know how long it takes to convert or export a video? (Let's say >50 MB one) :)

I just copypasted this little guideline from the .txt file XD So,there's no need for cropping,as long as there are no subs. It's okay to change framerate(fps) after you've finished your video, and are compressing it for sharing.

To export a video in that filesize, you should first export a lossless version of your video from your program. It can be either Lagarith or Huffyuv,or even Uncompressed XD Then, you input it in the VDubMod,and use a DivX/XviD for export codec.

There is another way,to make a x264 file, but that's a bit more difficult. If you want, you may always contact me trough MSN,and I'll explain it as much as I can.

How come that this board doesn't have an edit button to edit your post?

Divx won't show on Vegas, so I tried that strange Huffyuv format. From 15 MB to 512 MB, holy cow. I can't even edit a small clip of 20 sec, due to the extreme lag, even though my PC is pretty avarage. 2,7 GHz, 1 RAM, X800 GTO and crap the preview/drafting is still very slow. I mean I got draft on qaurter and still I need to wait 10 sec to see the preview in order to trim the video... :x

Go :

Options -> Preferences -> Video

Set the 'Dynamic RAM Preview Max.' and set it as high as you can.

And about an edit button - the truth is somewhere out there.

Oke, thanks. Although I got a critical question. How do you guys cut and paste the entire stuff? In vegas it took more than half an hour to edit 30 seconds, this is due to the extremly big format of 512 MB. No PC can handle that when editing, or can it? Or do you guys cut with virtualdubmod and then just paste in your editing program to add effects? Raptor you work with Xvid, even though people say it's no good?

And where is the edit button? I'm so beep blind, normally it's next to quote or at least somewhere in my post :(

I worked with XviD,but after I bought a new HDD,and I noticed that DivX/XviD editing is slow as hell,I started using Lagarith. Actually,Lagarith is working pretty fast on my PC(even though I have pretty slow PC o.O),and I'm clipping(segmenting) my footage to 50-frames clips,so it becomes even faster. The only thing that slows down my editing is the damn motivation -.- I lose it at most after 3-4 hours of editing XD

When I start preparing footage,I decide for size of how much will I'll use space for each episode or part of episode. Example : I used 2 GB for each folder when I was editing my Aishteru[Remastered]. Eachfolder contained clips from different episodes. Having like 300 or so clips in one folder makes my PC to lag a bit when throwing them in Vegas, and browsing that folder, but having such small clips in Vegas actually makes it work much faster than with full-lenght episodes or 1-2 mins clips.

Oke, thanks for all the tips. I've freed 2 G and currently I've like 1 G of footage. I use 5 different movies. I cut them with Virtualdubmod, naming them with small, medium, long fights and how many cuts there are. It works fine and I'll post them here, if someone's interested what I made. However, it's simply a collection of nice fights with some awesome music in my opinion. Really nothing special, just the nicest shots from the 5 kung fu movies :P
