AVI's In Vegas

Post by GH » Thu Oct 11, 2007 5:39 pm

I know their are multiple topics like this, but none answer my question completely,or correct,i know theirs a way to import AVI files in vegas, that are 200mb,like the ones i posess,i know of one way,but its not very reliable, wich is changing the FourCC,wich i dont want any solution of that,id like to know,is their anyway besides converting or changing the FourCC?

Things you might want to know:

I only have my 80gb internal hd,and thats all,no extra external hds,so thats the reason ill need the file to remain its size, btw,i only have like...32gb left O:

I know of some people who can do this, and the ones i asked explained it in a difficult way..a difficult way to understand aleast,im very bad with directions unless you tell me the exact thing to do,its a pain >.<

And certain AVI files do work on my vegas though,i dont even know how,im guessing i have the correct codecs for them, wich also makes me beleive the reason AVIs do not play on my vegas are because i need certain codecs,well..thats for you guys to decide O:

-Thanks ;)

Avi is a container... it means jack shit as to helping you with your problem. However, since it has been discussed several hundred times before here, read this: http://www.aquilinestudios.org/DivX_Editing.html

I know,im willing to take the risks of useing DivX,i know its a bad mistake, but ill take my chances,i might jsut result in changing the FourCC's,thats probubly a bad idea also, but i "might" have to if i dont get a solution to this problem by moday O:

with vegas you might not be able to import divx or xvid encoded files, a lot of the time the program will just out-right reject it

your best bet is to plan your video out more and make short clips of only the scenes you need and encode them with either huffyuv or lagarith (i prefer lagarith - smaller file size) and disable the audio

I used to edit on a system with an 80gb hd, and that's how I used to do it.

if your vegas is like mine, it will play DIVX files but not XVID files (go figure but its true). use a AVI FourCC changer. i use avic, which can be downloaded

http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avifourcc.html

there. the program is pretty self explanatory. but no idea if ur vegas is the same as mine. but it takes u the effort of typing 8 letters and pressing 'ok'. some conversions dont work with it tho, so make sure u remember the inital fourCC code your avi had so u can change it back if it didnt work
