Super are Shinji

Here's a little review of Madmank5's "Super are Shinji"
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=13583

"Super are Shinji" features the song "Super are You," which has no intelligible lyrics, and also uses noise, jarring skips and cuts to help produce its effect. This song fits the focus of this video: the jarringness and noise go along with the strangeness of Shinji's world, and the lack of understandable lyrics fits the fundamental concerns Shinji faces, and it also provides some sense of belittling and detatchment. The other aspects of the song are discussed below.

The opening shot of this video establishes Shinji as its viewpoint. The scenes in the beginning give the impression of Shinji reflecting on pain, fear, and anger along with routine and indifference. These scenes are accompanied by jarring noise that seems to be building into something. A revelation seems to be made as all sound cuts and the first vocals are heard, which is slurred grabled talk. This is synced with Gendo speaking importantly, which gives the impression that his words are meaningless. This builds to a chorus of unintelligible screaming, synced to Shinji. The feeling is something like "Shut up." :x Scenes of anger and pain seem to represent an argument and its support. There is some fun for a few seconds, and then more scenes of stress followed by a stressed out Shinji, who tries to convey his stress. The video wraps up with a few more scenes of anger and dispute, and then finally calming down for the last three shots. The silly and elemental nature of the song find a vibe thoughout the video with occasional clips that seem to have been selected solely for thier sync with the music. The editing is spastic and logical, and the many overlays used give a good sense of energy, confusion, and conflict.

As far as what is lacking: I know Madmank. I told him the shot from EOE just before the 1st chorus needed to be fixed, but he said he was finished... Anyway, it seems out of sync and irrelevant. Also, while present, I don't think any of the techinical glitches detract much from this video.

FYI: The Boredoms are a Japanese experimental rock group from Osaka. Check allmusic.com for more info.

I think the effects used are appropriate here, but in some other videos where they are used they seem unnecessary. What do you think?
