The Guardian Opinion Exchange

Post by Darush » Tue Oct 30, 2007 5:34 pm

Hey guys

My latest addition to my AMV's has been up since August. It hasn't really been in the lime light much and so has gone unnoticed.

Anyone who is ready and willing to leave an opinion is always welcome to do so and so I will naturally do the same for the willing party. The more the merrier. I am willing to give out as many ops as is asked of me if it is within my power. In return, I ask that you spare some time to glance through my AMV and be honest when leaving ops.

Brief video description:

I've always wanted to make an ANIME TRAILER. This one is a trailer of "THE GUARDIAN". I gave my Anime Trailer the same name as the source trailer due to the uncanny simalarities between them. Watch the vid and you'll see what I mean. Read the video information for any extra descriptive details.

All in all I hope you guys enjoy the video

The video is in MKV format. Just set Windows XP/Vista to view file extensions of known file types and double check that it has a .mkv extension which should be the case. Then just open it in your video player. Also check the file size of my video. It should be 52 mb. If it is, you have the complete file.

If the file doesn't open then it means you do not have the necessary video codec. You need the Matroska codec. Just look for Matroska pack, install it and you should be good to go.

Another recommendation is the CCCP codec pack which stands for Combined Community Codec Pack. This pack contains all the essential codecs needed for video playback incl mkv and mp4. The only codecs it doesn't have are those for quicktime and real media (not sure about later versions of CCCP), but those can be installed as stand alone codecs. (If you use this pack, you don't have to install matroska pack)

NB! To avoid codec conflicts, uninstall all existing codecs (you can leave real media and quictime if you wish) and then do a fresh install of CCCP. Your files should play with no problems.

Happy AMV watching!!
Enjoy

Ah - well I have a Mac. xD

I can usually view everything except Windows Media files, which I just recompress using my video converter. Neither I nor my converter as ever heard of a MKV file before, however. :(

For Mac users, go to the Matroska websites download section: http://www.matroska.org/downloads/others.html and see if there is anything available for mkv playback. I can't tell you if any of them work since I don't actually own a Mac.

I found one topic on a forum which addresses this issue. Read through it and hopefully you Mac users can find a solution. : http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=201483

I was totally oblivious to the fact that Mac had this mkv playback issue so I hope everything works out for you guys.

Good Luck!

MKV is just a container. The actual video was encoded in avi using the Xvid codec.
So here's a suggestion to Mac users:

Download the Matroska Editor for Mac "mkvtoolnix" from the Mac download section on the Matroska website: http://www.matroska.org/downloads/others.html

Then use mkvtoolnix to split the mkv file using mkvextract and you should get the avi file. You might have to reincode the video as I think it will split the video and audio files for the video seperately. So you'll end up having 2 files.

So I think you guys might have to reincode the files into one video file using your video editing software or any other app that can merge or encode the files into a playable format on Mac.

Hope this helps.

I'm downloading yours now, MKV isn't a problem for me so your op should be done within the hour.

Thanks in advance

ShivaBlizzard8: <a href="http://www.videolan.org/vlc/">VLC</a> is a media player that will work with MKV as well as MP4 I do not have a Mac, but they offer a mac friendlly version that would proboblly work just as well as it does on my windows. (since I don't have a mac, I do not know for sure, but still something worth checking out)

I'll download your videos later tonight and leave my opinion.
You guys will most likely get your ops tomorrow.

Thank you BurningLeaves for your opinion.
