anyone else hear the UVERworld cd??IT ONLY HAS 4 SONGS!!! what is wrong with that .i dont buy many japanese cds but is that normal? what are your opinions on the subject?cause im pissed I WANT MORE UVERworld!!!

Singles get released all the time in Japan, much more often than in the US.

why even bother answering dokool...if you feel the question to be a waste of your time, then simply avoid it...I'm sure you felt a lot better though after calling him a dumbass :/

I think they're released just as often, but Japanese singles are much more high-profile than American singles. Kinda like the UK market, which is singles-driven to the point where it can be hard to sell the entire album because kids already have five or six singles from it. Singles (the actual commercially-released discs) are an afterthought in America, and usually reserved for DJs and hardcore fans.

I'm intrigued by the way artists in Japan will keep careful track of how many singles they've released, even in promotions. Ludacris doesn't talk about releasing single number eight (or however many), he just says "new single."

Actually, I was the one who pointed him towards the CD to begin with since he was looking for it, and I find his being pissed at a band for only having one single out to be wholly irrational, especially since this is the bands' first breakout hit.

And U_S, you pretty much got it right. In America a 'single' means that the label is going to push airplay and that MTV will show the music video. In Japan a single is grounds for a massive advertising campaign worthy of a full album.

Take L'arc~En~Ciel for example - between Smile and Awake (their two most recent albums), they released four singles - Jiyu e no Shotai, Killing Me, New World, and Jojoshi. All of which are on Awake, and all of which have b-sides and the like.

Japanese bands have much higher standards for pleasing their fans than US bands - you can expect at least a half dozen singles and an album per year out of a Japanese group, but some of the most popular US groups take 2-3 years inbetween albums...
